Seymour usually only plays the 1st and 2nd down. And when it is in passing situations, Jarvis comes in and is used as the pass rusher along with Wright. Now in our system, our DLs first priority is containing two gaps and playing the run. They can't just go up field and pressure the QB. This is the main reason why even in Seymour's dominant years, he never had the sack total everyone expects from an elite DL. So far this year, Seymour has been back to his old dominant self. He's controlled the line of scrimmage in his side but was never used in passing situations because Jarvis came in for him.
(Side note: in the loss to Miami, the Dolphins attacked Warren and stayed away from Seymour. In the loss to the Chargers, the Pats limited SD's running game until towards the end of the game where LT padded the stats with some cheap yards).
Anyway, now that Green has been out for the last couple of games, Seymour has stayed on the field for the nickel packages to rush the QB. He's showed that he can definitely apply pressure when he's main goal is to rush. I think Jarvis is a valuable DL to have, but even when he comes back, the coaching staff should keep Seymour in for passing situations as well.
