I know we have a few posters who are Saints fans here (and great ones at that). Was wondering what their thoughts were on Mickey Loomis.
I think Payton and Brees are amazing, but it really feels like Loomis is the guy holding the organization back. Yes, there was the amazing Super Bowl run in 2009, but there have been a ton of questionable decisions over the years. I'm not talking about busted draft picks, because that's part of the business. But bizarre trades, strange contract decisions, and constantly drafting up or trying to hit home runs in free agency have left the team in a tough spot.
When he was named head of basketball operations for the Pelicans (Benson's NBA team, for those who don't follow basketball), it seems like the Saints have been at their worst. It makes me wonder how much of his attention is divided, and the impact that has on the team. The team has gone 7-9 in 4 of the 5 seasons since he was promoted (including the last 3), with only one playoff appearance with an 11-5 bounce-back year.
So just curious how the Saints fans feel about the guy. He brought a Super Bowl contender for a while, but lately, it hasn't been good. Is he given a free pass? Is this just a rough patch? Is there concern about his divided attention or is it overblown? Or is it all just a spot of bad luck?
