Sebastian Vollmer has officially been placed on injured reserve, ending his season.

The word thin doesn't do justice to our OL depth. Our first guy off the bench for LG, RG, and C are UDFAs.

64 Chris Barker G
61 Marcus Cannon G/T
63 Dan Connolly G/C
70 Logan Mankins G
77 Nate Solder T
74 Will Svitek T/G
62 Ryan Wendell C

That's a shame and a big blow to an OL that was already struggling. Hopefully the Berlin Wall can heal up and come back 100% and hopefully Cannon remains healthy.

Is Nick MacDonald out there still?

I can't even do this ***** anymore. Another key player? Another very important damn piece to the puzzle? Ah man.:doh::doh:

When I read that all I can think of is all the people who sneaked past the Berlin wall into allied territory...that can't be a good nickname for that o-line...although it might be accurate for the way the line has been playing right now.:bricks:

I knew the second I heard him screaming that he was done.

Tough break (no pun intended).

I was hoping they'd stash until the postseason if he healed up in time. Those leg injuries are brutal to O-Linemen so I guess the team felt he wouldn't be healed and back in football shape in time for the playoffs.

Vollmer has been the team's best O-Linemen. This is a huge loss on the season. Of all the key season-ending injuries, this one is perhaps going to be the most impactful.

Yeah, Kontra, same here. I guess I was just hoping for better news in a season where we're losing more to injury than we are our opponents . . . not that I'd prefer the alternative.

I wasn't sure if he was done or not. A broken bone can cause that sort of pain, but can heal quickly.. Unfortunately, surgery means that it wasn't going to heal quickly and that he was, in all likelihood done.

Pats need to sign an O-lineman now.

EDIT:

Only 1 of the 3 O-Linemen on the PS is a Tackle. That is Jordan Devey. Kline and Cave are C/Gs.

Not sure if you guys got this feeling, but I was apprehensive watching the replay because I was worried that I was about to see L.T./Theismann II, with the way Vollmer was screaming.

Was the season ending surgery the amputation or does that happen after Dr Gill prescribes the infection injection?

Another sore one for the team to take

Actually, Svitek can sort of back up everything. He in theory plays three positions, one of which is Connolly's, and Connolly has been tested at the other two.

(That Svitek and Cannon could divvy up the right side either of two ways just adds to the confusion.)

And again, for the big German:

Gute Besserung!!

The problem is that they only have 7 O-Linemen on the Roster currently. That's not enough. The only time they might have had that few is going into the play-offs in 2004 after they lost Light and Klemm during the season.

Svitek is a Swing tackle and emergency guard.

Chris Barker was an OG in College, starting all 4 years there. Not sure if the Pats have been developing him at center as well or not.

Yes, they have Kline and Cave who are OC/OGs on the PS, but they only have Devey at OT.

Cannon has seem time at LT, RT and RG with RT being, arguably, his best position.

The question becomes what do they do at RG if they lose Connolly again? And he's had to sub out several times and he's missed time this year as well. Do they play Svitek there? Do they shift Cannon inside with Svitek at OT? Do they bring Barker in?

Have the 3 guys on the PS made enough gains that the Pats are comfortable going forward?
