Scouting Report: Ameer Abdullah, RB Nebraska

Here is my latest report. I added in some video clips and hope to continue to expand the visual aids as I continue to refine these. As always, feedback would be great either here or on the original post site. I hope that eventually these will generate good debates and conversations. Thanks again for taking the time to read them.

Again, thanks for doing these. The video clips didn't show up when I brought up the web page, either via the link or by going to NEPatriotsDraft.com.

I know that you say Abdullah doesn't shy away from running inside, but do you think that he can do that effectively in the pros? Smaller backs like Shady McCoy and Ray Rice (previously) could, but there are plenty of guys like CJ Spiller who just aren't very effective running inside. I like Abdullah, but my concern is that he's not strong enough inside to be a workhorse back, and that he's not a good enough blocker or receiver to excel as a 3rd down back.

I think you are dead on Mayo. I do not see him as a 3rd down back. His pass protection is about as bad as I have seen, both in technique and in effort. Maybe my wording wasn't clear, but in his negatives I wrote that his big plays come when he has big holes. He does not really generate special plays. I think of him as Stevan Ridley in that way, but Ridley is built better.

I know that there have been some conversations about him being a potential 1st rounder, and I don't see it. There is a lot of season left, but I think he fits better in that 3rd round area for me right now.
