As it was with Tre Flowers and Sony. They got a player that would have been ranked higher but for the need for surgery.

...and also because a lot of Bill's draft picks simply suck.

Lost in all of these Belichick sucks at drafting posts is how could anyone accurately predict how a draftee could fit into the most physically and mentally demanding team in the NFL? There is no comparable program at the college level. There are demanding conferences, highly competent coaches and intelligence rating methods. But there is no way of accurately knowing how a kid could fit in to the Patriot's system ... the ultimate system perhaps in all of sports.

Why would you think that he would be an RFA?

Being that he's spent the year on NFI, I'm going to say his contract doesn't toll. You'll have to ask @Miguel for certain.

Drafting woes since 2014.....wonder if it will eventual catch up with us once Brady retires and Mccourty, Hightower, Collins, and Gilmore age

Your life could be worse, you could be a Jet fan AND have to lose your mind over their complete ****show in the draft (which they try to blame Macagnan for the last 15 years).

The draft hit a low for several years. But that's not really the issue when you're talking about rookie contracts. When you're talking about rookie deals, you're talking about 2016-2019 players who are still on the team. So

    Karras
    Thuney
    Roberts
    Wise
    Wynn
    Michel
    Bentley
    Izzo

and the 2019 draftee class are what you're looking at.

    • Harris was already drafted, so RB was not a need target after that, and neither Pollard nor Mattison was a need pick
    • Slayton was a late 5th round pick, and the Patriots passed on him numerous times after drafting Cajuste
    • Mack was a 7th round pick, and the Patriots passed on him numerous times after drafting Cajuste

The team traded up in order to grab a punter, but they chose not to draft Slayton or Mack, passing on them multiple times after having taking Cajuste. The team chose to draft Harris when they could have taken Pollard or Mattison. So why are those four supposed to count in this exercise?

As great as our defense has been, our entire team would be downright dominant if our OL was playing well.

Yeah not an impressive list at all. Wynn probably the most talented but made of glass. Thuney could be a pro bowler.

The talent level on rookie contracts for offensive skill positions is abysmal

Miguel tweeted he wouldn’t be able to answer questions until after work today, but Yodney should be a RFA because he will only have three accrued seasons at the end of his four year contract.

Because so far that would of been better return for the 2019 season which is the point I was making but as you and others and I have said and agree time will tell.

Oooh, I know this one! Is it, "aren't actually a thing when you consider the slots players were selected"?

Ok, but you're pulling 5th and 7th round picks and holding them up against a 3rd round slot. That's a non-starter because, if the Patriots had been deciding between Cajust and Slayton/Mack for that 3rd round pick, Slayton/Mack would have been chosen in Froholdt's spot. And they had already drafted a RB, while having Michel, White, Burkhead, and Develin on the roster, and still had positions of need, so drafting RB again wouldn't have made much sense, unless you think they were looking to ditch Burkhead.

So the whole "better return" argument you're using doesn't apply with the given players.
