Recently a longtime servant of this franchise has left and we've lost a pass rushing force because of it. Mario Williams has been compared to Willie McG. Mario may be more of a traditional DE, but it's not like Marquise Hill is holding down the fort.

Jarvis Green is though. very solid backup when Seymour went down. I dont know .. if we had to choose someone at #2

Reggie Bush
D'Brickashaw Ferguson
Michael Huff
AJ Hawk
Vernon Davis

would be my choices

not in order though

Not happening..and what does NO want???

agreed

NO will try and shuffle down within the top 10-15...the only way NE has a shot at trading for this pick is with Seymour...and even then, I don't think there is anyone that Piolichick would find value in at that spot for our current roster...

A quick look at the draft pick value chart suggests to me that, if the Saints are expecting value (2600 pts) the Pats would need to give up their first rounder and next year's as well as some of their 2nd, 3rd & 4th round picks as well

I don't see that happening. Given the needs of the team I think we want to draft as many guys as possible, knowing that while not all will pan out, enough of our 2nd - 5th round picks will result in value well above where they were drafted, giving us the youth and depth (and hopefully even the starters) we need for years to come

Yeah, the Saints want to give up the #2... and the Texans want to give up the #1...for the right offer.

Honestly, if it's a choice between Mario Williams vs. three young starters (two firsts and a second, minimum), well that is not a dream... it's a utter nightmare. Not a chance.

Saints got a good QB .. a QB is what they were gonna get in draft before Brees came to market

So now they question..Mario Williams? D'Brickashaw Ferguson or AJ Hawk?

Mario Williams-they have a lot of young DEs..Will Smith..Grant.Whithead i believe and i really dont think they need a guy there

Ferguson..they have a good OL when Mayberry is healthy..Gandy..Mayberry and Brown are all good

If they take an OL early its because they want to protect Brees and McAllister even more.

AJ Hawk..their defense really isnt good. They have good front line .. no LBs and no secondary really besides Smith and McKenzie. A guy like Hawk would be a great start

A small trade up, maybe. #2? I don't think so. What do we get for the big contract we'll pay and the compensation required?

We've got 3 #1's on the DLine, plus Green and the gravedigger, should he ever prove useful.

There's a number of good Tackles, so I don't think they want to go that high.

And we've got a pretty good QB.

If somehow the Texans didn't take Bush, imagine we could move there and get him?!?! I better calm down... not likely.

can you imagine the bidding war for that #1 spot if the Texans made it available?

thinking that you aren't the only one with eyes for Reggie...

My Draft Theory

Generally speaking, teams pay too much to trade up. It's like moving up 10 spots in Round 1 costs you a 2nd and a 5th besides giving up your 1st. Practically every time, it looks to me like the team trading down benefits.

Besides, having to pay #2 money to a draft pick is bad policy. A team can hire two late 1st rounders cheaper than a #2 pick, and that's better for the team than a single player could be. Remember there are 53 roster spots that need to be filled! I actually think that having the #1 pick keeps a team down rather than giving them an advantage. (e.g. San Fran last year) It forces them to waste a bushel of money that would be better spent balancing the entire lineup.

In an ideal world, I'd rather see the Pats have 4 second-round picks rather than 1 first, 1 second, and 1 third. And they could easily get the 4 picks for the 3 if they traded!

Like the way you think. Could you only imagine 4 #2's THIS year? Now I gotta calm down, for it too is unlikely.
