In a deal that locks up one of their standout young defensive ends long-term, the New Orleans Saints on Thursday reached agreement with five-year veteran Charles Grant on a new seven-year contract.

The monster deal for the left end could be worth as much as $63 million over the course of the seven years, league sources told ESPN.com, and it includes $20 million in guarantees. That includes an initial signing bonus and also a guaranteed option bonus due next spring.

Now thats one way to deal with the franchise tag

still less money than Asante wants

That means its getting more and more expensive for the Colts to keep Freeney. He's yet to sign his franchise 1 year tender so the price to sign him to a long term contract just keeps going, going, going....................up up and up.

Now we are down to pretty much 2 Millionaire whiners this year - Lance Briggs and Asante Samuel

Actually, that is false. The Exclusive Franchise Tag Number became set as of April 20th. So, any contracts signed after that do not affect Freeney's cap number.

And, in reality, I don't think that the AAV of Grant's contract would have pushed it up that much.
