Bill Belichick on adding another punter this week: "We'll see where Ryan's at & just take stock of everything here in the next day or so."

Sounds like there may be hope that Allen will be able to go, which is good news as he is quietly having a terrific season.

Yup. The Pats did not make any transactions over the wires today.

Not a done deal, but that bodes well. If Allen was truly done, one would think they would have moved quickly to bring in someone and start getting him acclimated and synced up with Aiken and Gostkowski..

Usually more punts in a game than FG tries. Makes me nervous that Gostkowski would be back there exposed to "running-into" or "roughing" the kicker or whatever they call it these days. He's a guy we just can't lose.

Also, not all that happy to see Brady there as a (literally) sitting duck on FGA's. Not as dangerous as the punter who moves towards the rush, but scary nonetheless.

Totally agree. They need to find a real punter and If Kluwe is the guy then get him in here. He'll keep his mouth shut and kick the ball just fine. Made me wince every time I saw Brady sitting there with no protection and guys running right at him. Thats a recipe for disaster.

May I ask, why?

I think the risk is minimum and it would give a good chance of a fake FG, it's not like a situation where they send him to hold once in a game. Holding all the FG's and he already did in the game against the Colts, Del Rio would never know what's coming.

If we are in a FG position, 4th and 4, 14x10 going to the half time, receiving the ball on 3rd quarter, I would be ok if they try something like that.

Belichick on Ryan Allen: "We'll put out our injury report after practice, as we usually do."

When asked about the status of punter Ryan Allen, Pats coach Bill Belichick instructed the media to look for tomorrow's injury report.

Wednesday Injury Report Status: Allen, Ryan: questionable - right shoulder

not hearing about other punters coming in ...is a good thing, I think at this point that would be happening if necessary.

Judging by BB's response, my best guess at this point is Allen is fine to play on Sunday.

It's not like he's a young Michael Vick. he's had ACL surgery, is probably the slowest player in the NFL and is 36 years old. You want him down on one leg, to receive a snap and then to get up and make a play on the run?

I'm sorry, but I see far more negative possibilities from that (injury included) than any positive pootential.

The New England Patriots believe there is a possibility that injured punter Ryan Allen will be able to play in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game, depending on how his shoulder responds to aggressive treatment over the course of the week, according to sources.

Seriously. Even if it's a fake FG pass, I think I'd rather that Allen take it, not to mention that Allen can take way more reps with Gost over a week of practice than Brady can.

I like my original (almost in jest idea) of Edeldude holding for ghost over Brady for sure; and at this point probably over Allen.

I think that is an awkward position if you have a shoulder injury to be kneeling and turning simultaneously and then hold yourself in that position waiting on the snap. So I would bet SOMEONE other than allen is practicing that this week. why not edeldude he isnt exactly busy on the line blockign for the kicks.

As for Brady; I was shocked that BB hadnt had someone else practice that throughout the season; I dont think he should be out there for that. Didnt we go through that with the Gronk broken arm discussion. While I thought was ok that Gronk played ST blocking; Brady holding - are you just asking for bad Karma or what?

now he would be the one to run a fake with, could throw...or run with it.
I like that idea....a lot !!!

Not on the run, the trick play would be passing the ball, and he is "probably" the most qualified player to complete a pass on the roster.

As I said, if he goes there to hold in one single FG Denver would obviously get the call like happened last year when Mallet went there for a hold in AFCCG, well that could make them waste a TO, I think the Ravens did.

But, if he goes there like a backup holder and he already did against the Colts (which helps in the process of building this fake role) like he's only there for holding, there's always the possibility of this trick play, I think that would mess with Del Rio at a certain point. If they don't go for this play I see no risk, no one will tackle a holder.

The question is, throw the ball to whom? I can see only Hooman or Mulligan, maybe Develin.
