do we know the Johnson interview is Thursday? I know he was given a Thur-Sat window for virtual interviews........with Leftwitch & Hamilton already complete....Vraebel will be in "this week"

That's all we know so far? The timeline wouldn't surprise me........we might have an announcement before the playoffs start
It would sure seem like they are moving quickly and that seemingly would indicate Vrabel.

BJ will probably need to have an amazing Zoom to slow this train down.

Hopefully they look at a few other candidates too but the swift action seems to point to Vrabel.

Imo, there are no S tier coaches available as of right now. ymmv on that one. To me a Superior coach would have been getting Sean Payton or Andy Reid (after he left the iggles).

I'd put Vrabel and BJ in the A class. But otherwise, good list. But Just No on Vance Joseph.
Yeah that is fair. I am making the list relative to who is available right now, not in the wider context of all of coaching. I agree with you.

Pep is a surprising uprising of a hot name circa ~'2015 (maybe as an offensive piece somewhere on the staff).
Leftwich is a box-checker

They probably believe that they are interviewing for possible coordinator jobs.
I bet you they said "stay in town a few days just in case we hire Vrabel because we will wanna interview you again for the OC job"... you know, since the coordinator roles also require 2 minority interviews

That is why I feel like they aren't just "checking boxes" fully. Someone did some homework to pull Pep Hamilton's name out of the ether.

I'm happy with Vrabel but this is more Patriots sham interviews and obsession with Patriots ties, it might be the right candidate but it's a bad process.

They have no intention of hiring anyone but Vrabel.

Rooney rule does not “help” these minority candidates. It actually devalues them as it lumps them into a basket of “your not really qualified for the job but we will interview you anyways”.
I actually think this rule makes the problem worse

Extremely patronizing.

S Tier: Mike Vrabel, Ben Johnson
A Tier:
B Tier: Aaron Glenn, Kliff Kingsbury, Brian Flores
C Tier: Joe Brady, Liam Coen, Kellen Moore
D Tier: Vance Joseph, Jesse Minter, Wes Phillips

Big gap between the top 2 and the rest. They probably don't want to go for another defensive guy besides Vrabel, and I don't think Kingsbury is really their type. So then they're looking at guys who are really inexperienced or retreads without a lot of success.
Where is the Jets top candidate in your list, huh??? The Jets clearly know something no one else does!

In my opinion I feel like it's one of those things where it made sense to implement at the time, but it has run its course by now and should probably be dissolved. It's not a rule that should be in place indefinitely, and certainly not one that needs to have MORE requirements tacked on to it every few years...

True. I forgot Pep Hamilton existed until a few minutes ago, and now I wouldn't hate him as OC.
I'm all for with Hamilton as OC, or in his previous role of passing game coordinator and QB coach.

And it did INDEED help him to interview for the HC position. If we don't hire him, perhaps he will get a shot with other teams as OC. IMO, the visibility helps.

We need an OC and passing coordinator. We have interviewed a top candidate.

Do we? I wouldn't rush to shove McCartney out the door, considering the job he did this year.
It is kinda hard to figure out who to credit for the QBs. Based on interviews with Maye and Milton, it seems all split up between Van Pelt, McCartney and McAdoo. I'd probably credit AVP and McAdoo before McCartney, but... hard to say. Certainly he didn't do a bad job.

Yup. We just don't know. At least one of them should stay. I thought that McAdoo was brought in to help develop Maye.

I would at least talk to all of them. You have a built-in excuse to poke around the inner workings of every currently successful franchise. Just do it. No brainer.

If we interview only two serious candidates that is barely better than the whole Mayo process.
My guess is they interviewed Mike when he got his red jacket. I'm kidding a little bit, but not much. I feel that there was a lot said between these people that would have left him with a good feeling. Then when he got done in Tennessee, the conversation would have clearly been to take a wait and see approach with what happens with Mayo for the '24 season.

"Hey Mike, we have some real misgivings about our commitment to Jerod. We had to speed up the timeline with Bill and maybe screwed Jerod in the process. Let's circle back later on in the year and see how it looks."

Then, Mike being the ******* that he is, interviews with Da Jete. Message sent: "No eff'n around, Bob. Let's fekkin do this if we are gonna do this."

In case everyone forgets, here's his comments at the end of his halftime speech. This is while he was at the Titans, so I am sure this left a mark. IT starts at the 7:35 mark.

Vrabel's interview now really would be a different tone. Now the FO would want to know details on how he's going to implement his vision for the organization going forward. An interview with Johnson would be a much different experience. The Krafts are already sold on Mike. Now it's all about the details of how it will look. Johnson has to sell himself and his vision.

I think Flores should be in the “A tier”
Doug Pederson missing from list
