People were saying Jones would take a while to develop but he showed in last nights game that he's ready to contribute immediately. If he plays like he did last night, he will make a huge difference in our defense and success come playoff time.

Aldon Smith
Jevon Kearse
Julius Peppers
Von Miller
Terrell Suggs

Can you think of anymore rookie pass rushers that made an impact?

Dwight Freeney
Clay Matthews
Shawn Merriman
Kameron Wimbley
Kevin Williams
Mark Anderson

All of them had 10+ sacks as rookies. There are probably others that I'm missing that have done the same recently too.

Deacon Jones?

I think Brian Orakpo was also 10+. At the next level you have Tamba Hali, Jabaal Sheard, and on and on.

Since sacks became an official stat, 31 rookies have had 10 sacks. Another 21 have had between 8 and 9.5.

If memory serves Simeon Rice had a big rookie year.

Oh yeah... Merriman was a monster as a rookie.

Forgot about some of those guys.

Hey guys, I know the kid looked good and all, but why don't we wait until the he gets his FIRST sack before we burden him with overhyped expectations. Jeeees, we are starting to sound like freakin' Jet fans here.

It should be clear to everyone that Jones is gong to be more than merely a situational pass rusher. He's going to be asked to do more, and with that get fewer opportunities to simply rush the passer.

I'm fine with him getting pressures and knocking down balls, sacks are overrated. I think we're all just happy that we may have a legit young pass rusher instead of the numerous stop gaps we've been trotting out since 07.

I hope our other 1st round lineman from last year (Solder) can get his act together or we're not going anywhere.

I agree with this but also remember Gronk and Hernandez stood out right off the bat in their first pre season and that carried over, I tempered my expectations that year too but sometimes you just know when you have a player. Lets see a couple more preseaon games and if he still has the same intensity it gonna be hard not to get excited.
