I'd be willing to bet that the vast majority of Americans:

a) Don't even know who sings the song;
b) If they do, they don't know that he's a scumbag.
Yeah, I agree - 99.99 % don't know.

But on the other hand he, or somebody he sold rights to is making money off royalties every time that song is played. Why should he profit?

The reason the song is so popular is not because it is a great song; it;s because the NFL plays it over and over in key moments in 32 stadiums. For example, 'Crazy Train' was just one of hundreds of heavy metal songs; then its rights were sold to the NFL and it gets played in every stadium at kickoff.

The NFL could have found two other songs and bought their rights, and we'd associate them with touchdowns and kicking off after a score too. They could do the same thing tomorrow, and 99.99% of NFL fans would quickly forget about Rock and Roll Part 2.
