Rob Gronkowski not expected play Sunday

Gronk should have never went ahead with the surgery to install that plate. Unless you need the surgery, let your body heal itself. Your long term health is more important than being rushed back. What a stupid decision by all parties.

It really wasn't a stupid decision. The practice is rather routine. You're only looking at it with perfect 20/20 hindsight.

Rob Gronkowski Injury: Updates on Patriots TE's Status, Likely Return Date | Bleacher Report

At this point I'd just keep him out though the bye, we have the Jets, Dolphins and Steelers after this game all of which we could beat without Gronkowski.

well the Jets have improved, the Fins are actually a good team and the Steelers should be an easy win. We need not only Gronk but we need at least another warm body at TE.

Every team in the league knows we have no TE so that brings more pressure to the WRs. I dont want to rush Gronk back but if he is not ready we need to explore a deal for a TE

Gotta love how people are putting this on Gronkowski when it is Dr. James Andrews who has not cleared Gronkowski to play..

But, yeah, lets keep throwing crap out there and proving how clueless we are instead of being patient. I mean, really..

As curran or someone else pointed out , keeping him on the Active roster in this case has in the longer run probably resulted in the frustrations. Team sees him practice all week for 6 weeks, thinks he is ready but doctor's dont clear him. Iam not to question Dr's clearance because if he is not ready he isnt , but do we then assume he is ready to practice and practice in pads and stuff but not ready to play in a game ? If andrews is being brought in to make sure then why not early in the 1st week ?. Assuming all this is true , which iam not sure right now what is happening.

At this point I'd more surprised if he actually suited up this season than if he doesn't.
I'm starting to reach that point too. I would not be remotely surprised if he got placed on the IR sometime over the next week. I'm not saying I am expecting it, just that I certainly wouldn't be surprised.

When weighing the decision even after knowing the outcome, take the long way. As someone who has broken many many bones over the years including my arm playing football, I would never opt for a surgery I don't need. I'd rather wait 8 weeks and be healed than rush things with the anticipation it works out fine, especially if I was young NFL superstar with the contract he has. Like I said, stupid on both sides. The rush decision to have surgery may very well have just killed his career.

As far as we know...

But we've heard reports that the team felt he was ready to play as early as week 2 or 3, which would make sense with Gronk practicing every day and being listed as "questionable" and "day to day" since the start of the season. If the team felt that the injury was so severe, It's my opinion-- based on how BB has handled injuries in the past and continues to, that Gronk would simply be listed as out on the Friday report (team preparations from the opponent already finished), and he wouldn't have his travel bag packed every away game (as if to say, whenever you're ready), had the team not medically cleared Gronkowski. BB isn't that concerned with how teams will see the injury report. If BB feels you're too hurt to contribute he won't have you practice-- we know this.

It's my belief that the team's medical staff has cleared him. Gronk has determined to listen to doctor's opposite the team. But the head scratcher for me is we're dealing with a bone on bone injury not a tendon on bone or muscle on tendon injury-- the timetables aren't the same. Bones don't get better "day to day" like a hamstring, or bicep, or thigh etc.

Day to day is BB telling Gronkowski "any day now".

Umm...no NFL superstar athletes typically don't take the longer route. They take whatever route gets them back on the field as soon as possible. How many players take HGH or steroid to try to speed their recoveries? Its this type of drive an motivation that made them superstar athletes to begin with. I can't imagine any player saying "no thanks coach, I'm not going to do this relatively routine procedure that will get me back on the field for the playoffs because I'm afraid of the low risk of complications". The point is if you are afraid of pushing your body through pain and possibly causing yourself permanent injury then the NFL is probably not for you.

I don't think he's going to go on IR unless he actually suffers a setback.

They were on a super bowl run, you don't think he wanted to get back on the field? Everyone's Monday morning QB'ing knowing the outcome but at the time I'm sure Gronk and his family were on board.

according to a NESN report, he has suffered a set back. I think he will be out for the year

He has been out indefinitely, until he's cleared, again you come out with old news like it's something new, what's your game?
