Rex Ryan says Dolphins denied him permission to hire Dan Campbell

I did not know a team could do this, I thought teams couldn't interfere with offers for vertical coaching hires, eg. offering a HC job to an OC.

No they just typically don't interfere as a professional courtesy. It's the same in the mlb but then some teams won't let people interview once in awhile. I know the Orioles wouldn't let their gm interview for the jays president job.
