On that, I completely agree with you. I've been hoping and praying that the Defense will be strengthened (significantly). I was hoping that it would have been done last year, but it wasn't. I will continue praying that BB makes it THE top priority this year. We're blessed on the offence, especially with TB. But the old adage is inescapable, 'Defence wins games', and I think we've all seen that statement proved over and over again since '05.

It obviously was BB's top priority last season. And the need to get younger was just as important. 3 LBs (really 4) and 2 CBs in one draft is pretty unheard of. Not re-signing Samuel ended up biting us in the short term, but Wheatley was well on his way to adequately replacing the 60 million dollar man before he got hurt, imo.

OTOH maybe BB did actually think that Fernando Bryant was the short-term answer at cornerback. But Belichick would be the first to admit that nobody's perfect.
