Pretty damning stuff from the New York Times this morning:

Now, an investigation by The New York Times has found that the N.F.L.'s concussion research was far more flawed than previously known.

For the last 13 years, the N.F.L. has stood by the research, which, the papers stated, was based on a full accounting of all concussions diagnosed by team physicians from 1996 through 2001. But confidential data obtained by The Times shows that more than 100 diagnosed concussions were omitted from the studies -- including some severe injuries to stars like quarterbacks Steve Young and Troy Aikman. The committee then calculated the rates of concussions using the incomplete data, making them appear less frequent than they actually were.

Yikes.

How's the shield doing ....

NFL needs the wrath of Congress ...

A few congress people launching an NFL investigation in an election year would be marvelous.
An effective way perhaps to exterminate the rodents in the NFL offices.

People should be in jail over this -- purposely and dishonestly manipulating/doctoring scientific research which has lead to people's deaths -- both from them being mislead about the consequences of continuing to play the sport, and from not receiving proper treatment that a non-biased doctor would've given.

Yikes.

The NFL manipulating data as part of a scientific study? Now I've heard everything!

Seriously though, how anyone could trust anything the league says about anything is beyond me... oh unless you're one of the countless media personnel/outlets paid to do its bidding...

The general public... if you believe a word they say, you should reevaluate your life.

Hope the judges read this article, a little more insight into the type of people they're dealing with.... but yea, Tom Brady is the shady one here... bizarro world.

This is a well established system that has been doctoring data for industry for decades. Tobacco, lead, pesticides, mercury, asbestos, climate...in many cases it is literally the same PR people working in the same firms. And...deflategate!

They deserve prison in this lifetime and a deep, dark place in hell afterwards.

Integrity blah blah blah.

Maybe THAT'S how how Pats fans need to fight back. If even a couple hundred wrote letters or e-mails to their Congressmen, that could spark something.

For what it's worth, Stephen Lynch (D-MA) is the only member from New England on the House Oversight Committee, as far as I know. I bring that up, because I believe when MLB had their Congressional hearings on steroid use, it was in front of that Committee.

The reason that won't happen is because it IS an election year and Congress has bigger fish to fry. Or so you would think...

This is gross, but not surprising.

That said, let's not, in any way, hope for a congressional inquiry. The Mitchell Commission was egregiously stupid.

Wish we could get one of these stories on DefameCrap. The science has been made up there as well. The NYJFL* is sad.
It really is amazing how badly they're trying to screw this whole thing up. They have a trillion dollar baby...

All they have to do is change its diaper, make sure it doesn't starve and discipline it (fairly) when necessary, but they insist on locking it in a closet, blowing smoke in its face and smacking it around, just to make sure the baby knows who's in charge.

Its mind boggling how these people have gotten to where they're at.

They do but free publicity in conjunction with a good cause is a worthwhile plan.

It looks like what the league did to Brady was childs play. The similarities with framegate are striking, manipulating data, aggressively spreading lies, and running an "investigation" to effectively validate a desired outcome.

Framegate helped us understand how the league operates and the evil that they are capable of. NFL executives should go to jail over this.

There is no better way for the fans of the Patriots to channel the feelings of frustration and helplessness over framegate to achieve some form of justice by working to expose, and eventually throw out, the rotten core that runs the NFL.
