Once Brady's gone, they can burn the game to the ground, for all I care. Until that time, though, they need to leave it the hell alone.

Can't imagine a lot of people besides owners are going to be happy about 17 games. Part of what makes the NFL so good is the simplicity of the scheduling and playoff formulas. And if you don't think they're simple now, try and quickly think through the logistics of 17 games yourself. Who plays who in a season?

If you gonna play an extra game they better increase the roster of 53.

Whatever I'm not asking for extra games and playoff format changes. But if they give me more football I'll watch.

Ugh the worst part of that is more playoff teams. 12 is perfect.

If they want an extra playoff game then they should do what baseball does....

Extend everything by a week and keep it the same and have the 6th and 7th teams play each other to move into wildcard weekend.

It would give the tip two teams two weeks off but I'd rather have that than have the number 2 seed have zero rest

Let's get Ab back next year and go 20-0!

Why though ?

The best team of the regular season gets a week off for having the best record. That is well deserved and correctly puts a bigger reward for regular season excellence.

Exactly why should the second best team get a BYE ? Apart from "because we are used to it".

I hope the NFLPA gets concessions on discipline from Dear Leader Goodell, the current process is absurd and arbitrary.. refer it to a neutral arbitrator. All the brouhaha about #12 and the ideal gas law is an excellent example.

Then there is the idiotic and archaic rule about 6 inactives, if you are paying 53 players let 53 players be eligible for every game.. particularly if you extend the season, as the attrition will probably increase. For that matter dress the practice squad as well, consider all the possibilities that will make the NFL even better by having specialists..

If the owners want 17 games, (more money!!!), then give the players concessions as well..

The only change I would welcome to the playoff format is a best out of 3 super bowl, which could be epic.

No, it wouldn’t. It would completely ruin the Super Bowl and football is way too punishing a sport for that. Especially on that big of a stage where guys are going full tilt, all the time. That’s a terrible idea.

There are a lot of terrible ideas on this forum. I blame Madden for this.

The 46 man rule makes sense and it is to protect teams from playing guys who should sit out. Since teams almost never have 7 healthy inactives, it’s likely that the teams will have different number of healthy players. This, in theory, is a competitive advantage for the healthier team which in turn penalizes teams for protecting injured guys. This will lead to pressures on coaches, trainers and players to downplay the severity of injuries. And guys who are usually “game time decisions” and currently scratched will be dressed to play and more likely to be put into a game

The overall roster should be expanded to 60 or 65. Forcing the teams to dress an equal number of players makes sense. It should be 50 or 55 ideally, allowing for 5-10 inactives with expanded rosters

Sounds too easy.

Agreed. As terrible ideas go it's not quite getting involved in a land war in Asia but it's right up there with going against a Sicilian with death on the line.

Maybe, but I was talking about what it be like for the fans... don't put it past the owners to do this some day, especially since it would generate tons of money and ratings.

If you add the practice squad that would be 61... which has been my contention. To "protect teams from playing guys who should sit out" doesn't make that much sense either..

As I have always felt that the NFL injury list should reflect what they do in the other major sports, if they heal and are ready to play again let them come back. If 3 important players get hurt in the first game of the season and all three recover by game #7 all should be allowed to come back.. they are getting paid anyway.

This whole system of 46 dressed and the injured lists are archaic and need updating..
