What a crop of very inexperienced new head coaches. What happened to being a DC or OC for several years and winning a championship? As comparison BB won 2 rings as a Giants DC and had coached 4+ units before becoming Browns HC.

Now you have multiple guys who are QB coaches, never even ran a unit as NFL coordinator, going straight to NFL HC. Recipe for disaster.

- Freddie Kitchens
- Zac Taylor
- Kliff Kingsbury
- Matt LaFleur
- Even Mike Vrabel last year...

Trying to find lightning in a bottle.

It's possible teams feel younger coaches can better relate to today's players.
Seems this was a factor in the Dolphins liking Flores and a few other hires.
Some of these teams have had years of little success ...
Can't blame them for thinking outside the box a bit - little to lose as they have losing histories.

Bill is a God, but he needs to let someone else pick the groceries.

I like what Matt Nagy has done to the Bears being a coach first time in his career.

How much was it due to a defensive MVP caliber player in KMack joining the team?

.
Of course Mack has a big impact but results are results. Obviously Nagy decided to bring the guy to the team because saw him as a real improvement to the defense. It worked. It does not change the fact Nagy made the Bears a serious team with a great defense and quite good offense.

A combination of that and the litany of fails coming out of the retread factory may well have owners and GMs more willing to stretch than they were before

Teams are taking chances on nailing down the next genius. Sometimes it's one year and cut bait.

The two responses to any successful concept in the NFL:
  • How do we counter this?
  • How do we copy this?
