What went wrong on the Ronnie Brown at QB plays?

seems to me like the 3-4 read and react style we play should have lent to more success. Stay in your lane and let it come to you. What broke down?

Also seems to me like spreading out the QB simplifies it. You cant abandon pass (as they did throw once) but come on if it was that easy everyone would do it. I ask again what broke down?

Note: I haven't brought myself to watch again so maybe I should have first so I could bring more to the table than my wine.

No speed on defense, they could not even sack a gimp QB like Pennington..Pathetic

I'll need to watch the rest of the game and rewatch the first half again, but the misdirection seemed to suck the ILBs and secondary out of position.

They looked like they panicked at the sight of the unusual formation. The whole thing looked like a little kids' soccer game, everyone just swarmed to the guy who they thought had the ball, allowing other guys to do whatever they wanted. It was very unusual for this team. Just another part of a crappy game.

i dont know...

the first time ronnie did it, it was extremely unexpected...so it happens...you didnt game plan, it was executed well....what can u say? the pats are human...

then it happened again for a 2nd td...

then it happened again for a really long gain...

then it happened again for a 3rd td...

and then i had no idea why the pats were not adjusting to the play? just bring one LB up to the damn middle, and make sure brown doesnt get past...

and then it happened again...and the questions picked up speed

Really confused as to why they did not make "adjustments" to this, at least "spy" the guy.. once maybe, twice maybe... but how many times did it happen 5 times?? Kind of by the response of this defense on this formation.. here comes the blueprint talk again.

sometimes it's not as easy as it sounds later...sometimes wrinkles like that are harder to be solved..but there was another formation that gave them trouble...with 4 wideouts on one side..that also confused the team...and they used that for yardage...

There are some people on this site that are very very good at breaking down plays. I hope they can break down these RB direct snaps. I do not beleive it is because our defense is too slow and it is hard to beleive that they could not 'read' the play. It seems to me that once RB got the snap there were less choices as to what was going to happen on that play. Still that play went for big yards every time except for the time Williams tripped over his own two feet (but that would have went for big yards also if he did not). We have speed on the field and we have a smart defense but the Dolphins seemed to know what plays to call to leave our D confused all day. Everytime RB lined up behind center there was no adjustments that I saw on Defense and no talking.

From what I saw on replays, a lot of it was guys just getting blocked. On the long run, the LBs on that side of the field got blocked - Bruschi in particular. It was an 8 yard gain, then the corner misses a tackle and it is a long TD.

Those were the people I was looking to when I started this thread.

Forgot the first rule on such plays in college, roll AD split it to chad pennington and lay a lick on him after snap before 5 yd line.

That sort of echoes Sey's comments-'running around like chickens with their heads cut off' or words to that effect.

You know maybe your right they probably should have punished Chad for lining up somewhere where it was easier to get to him. That wouldn't have neccessarily helped you stop it but at least there would be a price to pay for it.

someone started their own thread with this link but I thought it was needed here for this discussion too. It is the NFL channels breakdown of the play.

After watching that I swear it seems like a couple of those options plays would have beat us regardless of the option they chose. I think I need to agree with the earlier poster who said it was more a matter of the Dolphins getting on their blocks than the Pats being to slow or to confused.

lot of patriots players today and even bb said they have seen this before with the jets running similar plays before favre was there. those trick plays killed us but the wide open passes to fasano in the middle of the field were equally frustrating.

I agree. If you watch the replays the DB backs off of Pennington and gives him a cusion. Had they wacked him the second time they ran the play it never would have been run again. The danger of losing Pennington for the year would have been too great.
