Ravens breakdown.

I'm getting pretty tired about the media hyping up how the Ravens aren't afraid of coming to NE. Lets get real. NO NFL team is "afraid" or intimidated by another team. If they were, they would be in the league. This is pure media hype. This is another case were he hear about how tough the other team is against the Pats, and then when we look at the recent records, the the Pats are like 8-3 against them.

That's not really how it works. There are plenty of soft and weak minded individuals at the highest level of sports. Muhammad Ali used to get into his opponents' heads and intimidate them on a regular basis. We see it in combat sports today as well with guys like Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. Hell, DT admitted a couple of years ago that his team was concerned about the possibility of playing in Foxboro, which led them to overlook the Colts. That ended up costing them the game. There have been other players who have noted the same thing - that playing in Foxboro can be a very intimidating experience.

All bay area radio here is picking the ravens. They cant believe pats are 7 pt favorites.

The Ravens beat guys are picking the Pats in the piece Reiss wrote for ESPN. Expectations are all over the place it seems..

Set to face John Harbaugh's team, Tom Brady reflects on plane ride with him

2. Some within the Patriots organization were amused this week at how much talk they heard from the Ravens about how Baltimore wasn’t scared of playing New England. Walking out of the team’s locker room on Saturday after a fourth straight day of media access, it almost felt like some players were using it as a form of motivation. There seems to be widespread respect for the Ravens at One Patriot Place, but at the same time, some seemed to think the team’s 9-3 all-time series lead was being conveniently left out of the discussion by some Baltimore players.

I am surprised. I think the Pats win but this will be closer than 7 i think unless the Ravens make a big mistake in the final minutes.

Their D should be able to keep it very close.

The Raven's running game is not that great, to put it mildly. I'm reasonably confident BB can prepare enough defense to hold Ravens to under 24 points. I'm reasonably confident we can score over 24 points in this game.

I would be happy if they kept running. Its our pass defense + lack of pressure which can be a problem. As per that espn link above . "New England has allowed 15 completions on passes that traveled at least 15 yards downfield (only four teams have allowed more)." Yikes.

Yeah that's a concern. However, with the exception of their wins over the Steelers and the blowout win over the Dolphins, the Ravens at best seem to be an "okay-ish" team. Maybe the big win at Miami was a fluke, maybe they've turned a corner as a team. I guess we'll find out tonight.

Kind of funny how they overlook how we're 9-3 against this team. The losses are magnified because 2 of them were in the playoffs in Foxboro.
A little perspective though:
The 2010 playoff loss- we lost Wes Welker to a knee injury in the last regular season game.
The September 2012 regular season game was on the road and we lost by a point due to piss poor officiating.
The 2013 playoff game was Ray Lewis's farewell year, they had Ed Reed, they had Ray Rice in his prime, and Bernard "f*cking" Pollard knocked out our running game early in the 4th quarter when we were driving.

I wonder why the Ravens get so much credit for playing better recently (especially their defense) while the Pats improved defense seems to get no credence at all. Why is that? Sounds to me like the media pumping up the Ravens to make the game more compelling that it really might be.

The fact is if the Pats don't turn the ball over and Hoculi doesn't give the Ravens 100yds in PI calls the Pats are going to win this game, because THAT is how the Ravens are winning lately. They are getting or creating a lot of turn overs.
