Ranking the CBs in the draft

I rate Peters well ahead of Waynes.

I have a strong bias towards guys who can excel in press-man coverage, though versatility is important.

My top 9 for the Pats (ignoring Waynes):

1. Marcus Peters
2. Byron Jones
3. Kevin Johnson
4. Jalen Collins
5. Eric Rowe
6. PJ Williams
7. Josh Shaw
8. Quentin Rollins
9. Alex Carter

The open question is how many of this top 10 Belichick would be happy with at 32 (or perhaps 25-40 with a trade). Are all of these worth of being picked by us at 64?

Tony Lippett, the WR from Michigan State, is being considered as a more viable CB in the pros by some of the scouts he's spoken to. His versatility and toughness are going to be thought favorably by Belichick, that's for sure. Lippett spent the first couple of years as a defensive back, before switching to offense the past two years. I like him for us, sort of a taller, lanky Troy Brown, with large hands to grab the ball really well. If he's there in the mid rounds, he's darn good value.

Great kid almost 6' 3" with big, big hands. Listen to his demeanor:

Half of the teams are intrigued with his ability to go both ways. He may have more ceiling as a DB, considering his height. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...ams-divided-on-whether-to-play-me-at-wr-or-cb

Not many players like this nowadays. And his heart, will, and grit are very solid, best of the best. Can you tell I love this prospect? Best of luck, Tony Lippett! Please don't become a Steeler.

I listened to his interview with Pat Kirwin & Jim Miller on Moving the Chains on Sirius XM.
He sounded sincere, smart, humble and very well-spoken. I would not mind at all if he were drafted
with one of our 3 cluster picks.

Brett Kollman has some nice film breakdowns on selected prospects, including one of Jalen Collins against Amari Cooper:

It's a great breakdown to watch in terms of discussing CB technique - both press-man and off-man. Kollman is pretty rough on Collins, who shows a number of technical flaws against Cooper.

Thanks for posting. I had watched this about a week ago and meant to post it but then got busy and forgot. Collins was awful.

Agreed, and I've moved Eric Rowe ahead of him on my board. But Collins does have some real upside, IF he has the work ethic and is coachable.

I think that video clip is one of the best I've seen in terms of discussing some of the finer points of CB technique. Really nice stuff.
