Raiders Sign Andre Carter

before we overreact over the pass rush for 1 game this year..lets give it a few more weeks

One game? They've been average though two games and out right sucked the last one.

We aren't a blitzing team therefore we rely on our front four generating enough pressure and then use our coverage schemes to force QBs into mistakes....the issue is the front four don't do their job on a consistent basis.

Even when we did have Anderson and Carter, there were only a couple more sacks combined throughout the team in 2011 than there was in 2010...but because we had a couple of ten sack guys we all thought it was fixed. In reality it wasn't. In 2010 the sacks were just spread around more.

Ninkovich is just a guy...Jones is the standout performer but whilst he's getting double teamed Ninkovich can't shed a single man block to save his life or generate enough speed around the edge.

Up the middle it's just as bad. I can't believe people are even asking why things were so bad against the ravens....look at the pass rush statistics and you'll see why.

I've really liked the secondary play so far. They're being left out to dry at times b the DL.

So Seymour is playing only half of Oakland's defensive snaps this season and it's nearly universal among Raider fans that they can't wait to get rid of him, but we can't make a call on this trade????

As to his importance to their Defensive line....they have the 20th ranked rush defense and the 23rd ranked overall defense. So, yeah......not too important.

Let's see....Seymour is making about 11 million this year versus Solder's 2 million (total compensation).

Seymour won't be on the Raiders next year and Solder will be our starting LT for the next 10 years. So that's....Seymour.....or......Solder for the next 10 years and an extra 9 million dollars in cap space.

Done deal....Solder and 9 million...hands down.
You're clearly biased when you're not considering the time since the Seymour trade. Seymour may have been the difference between having 4 or 5 Lombardi's instead of 3.

Now stop arguing finances because I agree with you on that.

Its very hard to successfully rush when you are being held all night long and your opponent is never penalised for it.

That is all the more reason to bring a fifth man at the quarterback. If the Offensive linemen are holding, they can't get off their blocks to pick up a blitzer. That's high school football 101.

You should forward this to BB, or Matt. Maybe they didnt know.

We have the talent we need to make changes to are approach.

1. Move Jones around to LE, and DT to exploit match ups.
2. Rush Spikes, Mayo, and Hightower from the LB position. Especially Mayo.
3. Use Hightower as LB/DE hybrid in the sub packages. Keeping him, Mayo, Spikes all on the field.
4. Use Cunningham, Scott, Bequette at LE. Nink is a good player but he would be better served as a occasional sub rusher and are 4th LB.
5. Rest Wilfork more in base packages so he is fresh on passing downs. Use Deaderick and Brace more.
6. Bring back the chaos fronts that we utilized back in the days of Willie and Vrabel.

1. If Jones is at LE, that solves LE but just creates a worse need at RE. See Baltimore game.
2. Mayo had one sack last year playing primarily OLB. That's right at his career average of one per year. He's just not a good pass rusher from the LB position.
3. Spikes should come off the field in sub packages - he's not an athletic option in coverage.
4. Cunningham and Scott should be used more at LE, totally agree. Mostly Cunningham. I saw nothing from Bequette in preseason to say he should ever rotate over Cunningham.
5. Resting Wilfork is dangerous, but probably a good idea.
6. Can the current group play the chaos front? Did that rely upon the unique versatility of McGinest & Vrabel to set the edge, rush, and cover? Maybe too early to ask Jones to do that.

What the defense really needs is a strong LE that can at least rotate with Ninkovich and provide more of a pass rush than he can. I would have welcomed Carter back over Forston or Francis in a second. Both of those guys would make the practice squad, and if not really not weaken the team with their losses. The addition of Carter would solve the LE pass rush.

Carter was also reportedly a great locker room guy.

Really a shame the Patriots did not act on this. Would have been a great addition at a position of real need.

I would hope Bequette can at least be active one of these weeks especially if Stinkovich continues to struggle. We DID spend a 2nd rounder on the guy.

Oh shove it! 3rd rounder

If we have scrubs in our secondary who cannot cover WR's with speed. Don't you think the more pressure we get upfront would help? Carter played very well for us last year...i think he would have gave us the First shot at resigning him.

I'm biased....lol......really?? I've given you ample evidence to support my position. You've given me nothing but conjecture.

One more fact....in the 3 seasons that Seymour was with the Raiders, they didn't have a single winning season and had an overall record of 21-27.
The season before Seymour was with the Raiders, the Raiders were 5-11 and his first season with the Raiders they were.....5-11. Boy, that's quite a difference.

That 2009 team was so bad that Seymour wouldn't have even put them over the hump. 2010 and 2011, you should be able to make that case, though.

And where was the money coming from to keep Richard around after the 2009 season? It was either sign Wilfork or Seymour and the Patriots wisely chose Wilfork.

It's been proven at least a hundred times on this forum since that trade that the Pats could have had the money for both guys.

Here is to hoping Jake Bequette, completely out of nowhere, is lightning in a bottle. Highly doubtful as it may be.

Greetings,
I predicted he would prob get 7-8 sacks this year. But I have not seen him get on the field this year at all. I also had hopes Hightower would see some time at DE as well.

Nonsense, I really wish people would stop saying this.

How about some of these players instead:

Nick Kaczur -$5.5 million
Shawn Springs -$4.5 million
James Sanders -$3.7 million
Derrick Burgess -$3.5 million
Jarvis Green - $3.5 Million
Chris Baker -$3.2 million
Fred Taylor -$3 million

Infuriated that we didn't sign Carter. This defense is not yet good enough to ignore the dynamism and leadrship of a guy like andre Carter, even coming off injury.

The question is whether Carter is still recovering from the injury.
I thought they should have re-signed a healthy Anderson.

Chandler Jones is a good player but he needs another rusher
on the other side to be effective. Trevor Scott is apparently
not the answer.

Let's see if the refs continue to call no holding on Jones every play

I was ok with letting Anderson go because he reminded me too much of Banta-Cain's situation (not as a player, just the situation). I feel like he's not going to live up to that contract now that he has security. We'll see.

As for Carter, I'm waiting to see how he performs coming off that injury on the wrong side of 30 before I say the Patriots should have brought him back. If he does well in Oakland, it will absolutely have been a mistake not bringing him back, even if it was just in a 3rd down situational role.
