This might be a stupid question but I'm not sure what position he plays for us.

He's 6'6 265, is he a Jarvis Green type pass rushing 3-4 de? Or can he play some 3-4 olb?

He has and always will play OLB in the 3-4. BTW, Green has 20lbs on Ellis. Ellis isn't bulky enough to play DE in the 3-4.

if I remember correctly he was a down linemen early in his career but he was a 34 OLB in Dallas. Not sure where he played last year as I didn't watch the Raiders that much.

The Raiders play 4-3 and Ellis was the starting left DE most of the year. He did very well as a pass rusher but not so much against the run. Ellis's biggest problem was that he was injured much of the year. He would practice maybe one day a week and then play on Sunday. He had a knee scoped half way through the season and struggled to make it to the end. The Raiders had a rookie, Shaughnessy, start in his place later in the year. Shaughnessy was much better vs the run than Ellis but Ellis is a very good pass rusher. I am surprised that Oakland didn't keep Ellis as a designated pass rusher. Professional. Good locker room guy. Ellis(and Seymour) both did a great job of tutoring the young DLinemen on the Raiders. Ellis has experience as a 3-4 OLB in Dallas but at this stage of his career, I only see him as a pass rush specialist. He still has good burst off the line of scrimmage. If relatively healthy, he could be a great sub-package guy for the Pats or anyone looking for pass rush help.

The Pats offered him an one year deal last year. I wonder if they offer him another one a year later. The guy had a decent year last year. Could be a situational edge rusher.

If I remembered correctly, he doesn't want to play in a 3-4.
