I've been doing a little research on the success of NFL QBs and I came up with a decent way to measure exactly how successful a QB has been. I decided to borrow a formula from someone on this board. Sorry but I don't remember who it was.
It works like this. I awarded 1 point for a QB's team making the playoffs, 2 if his team won the WC game, 3 if he won the divisional game, 4 for a conference win and 5 for a SB win. For example, in the playoffs just concluded, Peyton received 5 points, Newton 4, Brady and Wilson 3 and so on.
I then calculated the the average points for each player for the seasons played. If a player was injured, like Brady in 2008 and Manning in 2011, I didn't count that season in the total average. In the chart below the first column headed by PG is the average playoff points that the player had for his entire career. The next column is the total points and the next (PS%) is what % of the seasons he played that he made the playoffs.
HOF QBs and some of the current QBs are included. Let me know what you think.
