Gotta be the worst I have seen from any of the major sites and it has nothing to do with him having the Pats at #3. The Cowboys' #4? Steelers #5? Anyone who has the Steelers in the top 5 must be smoking crack or a Steeler homer.

Nah, Prisco is just a maroon.

I have no problem with someone putting teams ahead of the Pats, but what does this even mean?

As long as Peyton Manning is on the field, they are the favorites to win it again. Don't be fooled by all the attrition talk. They're actually better.

Tell us how!

worthless to read. He's just trying to get attention. Best to ignore him. It's just silly.

Yeah, I saw that too. What exactly makes them better? I mean I guess their defense can't be much worse than it was last year. What defense could be? But the Colts just got lucky to get hot at the right time and got a few breaks to win the Super Bowl last year. They clearly weren't the best team last year. I look at them as the 2001 Patriots. If we didn't retool the team from that 2001 team, we would have never won another Super Bowl. I see the Colts the same way.

I'm not sure how the Colts are better. They lost alot of players.

Yeah, the Colts won the superbowl and until another game is played, they are still world champs, and should be number one.

But to say they are better because of attrition? It would have been nice if he explained what he was talking about, something like: "Backup RBs dilute the running game. The Colts are better off with just Addai than with Addai and Rhodes," or, "Glenn was over-rated, fat and slow. Tony Ugoh will protect Manning's blindside in a way that Glenn never did." "The Colts backfield was weak last year, and will be better now that the second stringers will be on the field." Stuff like that.

They may be, but do we know yet? Last time I checked the first snap of the season is tomorrow night. This is what I have a problem with. Put the Pats at No. 3, fine.

But don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining. The Colts have pressing concerns just like every other team in this league, including the Pats. Basically what Prisco is saying to all of us as fans is ignore the losses the Colts incurred or..."I can't really prove it, and I'm really just pulling this out of my ass, and it's completely baseless in every way shape and form, but they're better! They're better! Believe it because I said so, and because I really like Dungy and Manning when I'm not pining for Miami."

how anyone can not have this team #1 is ridiculous. that guy is a moron

The Colts should START # 1. They are the Champs. Anything else is disrepectful. All that said.......... They are a far weaker team then they were last year, and last year was a weaker team then in years past.

NE vs. SD is a fair match, but the homer in me say's we're better. I like our chances headed in. I really do. More than I have in a LONG TIME.

My theory on Power Rankings is that that the defending champion should be No. 1, at least until they slip up. I'd start the Colts at 1, then the Patriots.

The offense will be explosive. Tom Brady will throw for 4,000-plus yards. But it's on the defense to show that the way they played in the loss to the Colts was an aberration.

Actually Pete, it wasn't an aberration. It's precisely how I would've expected Rashad Baker, Eric Alexander, Artrell Hawkins and Tully Banta-Cain to play. The defense that played in the second half of that game bears no resemblance to our defense this year.

I agree, the Colts should be 1. But to say that they're better is shaky at best and outright stupid at worst. You won't REALLY know until the season starts, but seriously, they lost a fair amount in the off season. Prisco just enjoys the feel of Manning's ass on his lips.

lots of anger in this thread

and the Colts Defense IS better than last year. Hayen And Jackson and Bethea each made game changing plays in the Playoff run. Keiaho is a beast and Ed Johnson is showing he will make a decent
fill in for Booger. The Colts have always groomed their own players into starting spots nothing is changed this year last years losses were worse and they won the SB

Hey there hasn't been a single game played yet.
Who cares it all just speculation at this point.
After week 2 however we will have played 2 of last years playoff teams.
Lets revisit this discussion then.
I think this years Clots fans will have the same kind of rude awakening that Miami had last year.
Time will tell....

Making a few play is one thing, making them all season long is another. besides, the Colts have very little depth on defense. A lot of the guys starting on defense were last year's back ups and there have little replacements at depth. I am not convinced Ed Johnson is anywhere close to Booger, but what if they have another injury at DT? Who do they have to replace Johnson or Brock?

What is the purpose of power rankings? I believe it is to consider as many factors as possible, and then try to rank teams according to which have the greatest chance to win over others. If this is the case, why would the defending champ be put first arbitrarily, without regard to other factors? If the colts replaced all their offensive linemen with contestants from celebrity fit club, would they still be number one? Obviously not. And yet by your "champs ranked first" rule, you would have to.

And if Manning retired after he finally won his ring? Should they still be #1, or does personnel count?

Last year's results have nothing to do with this year's team. Pats, SD, maybe even Baltimore...I could see any of those three being on top. There's no way the Colts should be #1 this season, because they weren't even the best team in football last year. They lost a lot of starters from a historically bad defense. They lost their starting RB who would have split carries this year. They lost their rock on the O-line. On the other hand, they did add a rookie receiver!

I don't recall the Pats being #1 in many 2002 season rankings just because they won in '01.

the colts are champs and should be #1; it's a reasonable debate as to whether the pats or chargers are #2 or #3. as for the rest, who cares?
Let's get ready for some football!
