Pressure won't effect Rivers ... Ha!

From what I've seen most Charger fans' understanding of the game is not very nuanced. It's more like "LT is the MVP and he's gonna run all over you," or "Merriman is ganna crush Brady." These guys don't understand matchups, they don't look at meaningful statistics.... They view the game through the simplistic lens of mainstream media coverage.

Or that we have no business being on the same field with the soon-to-be-crowned champions.........

I guess it doesn't matter how many times we tell 'em "we've been at this playoff thing a few times in the past 5 years and we know a tad more about football in the playoffs than you do"

San Diego has some great players and some very over-rated players. Regardless of the score sunday night, the Patriots will have exposed the Chargers weaknesses. It does seem to me that there are a couple of guys on each side of the ball that are doing the most for that team. It's not like we are have to game-plan to stop all of them...just the ones that make the most plays.

With LT and Gates accounting for 80% of the offense and Merriman and a coule of other guys making the majority of the plays on defense...its not like they are going to come at us with power and speed at every position.

Granted it will be a tough row-to-hoe to stop thier big playmakers but this is where BB can make it extremely difficult for the opposing teams.

Marty Shottenhiemer knows that they got this far because LT carried them on offense and he will find a way to get the ball in his hands as often as possible. He does not want to put the game in the hands of Rivers because even a fool would know that would play right into the defenses hands. Lets face it Charger fans, Marty didn't exactly take the hand-cuffs off Rivers in every game. He had to a few times and things worked out for the kid. There were a few games that the Chargers needed a miracle to win the game, But he is not going to want to do that against the Patriots. The Pats D is a disciplined playoff tested group of players.

The Chargers defense is not to bad but they played horribly at times and were scorched for a lot of points. They are talented at some positions but can be exposed (and hammered). Brady is the best in the league at taking what a defense will give him and keep doing that until you make him find something else. If San Diego blitzes a lot, Brady will adjust and get the ball out of there. Our offensive line is not getting nearly enough credit for how well they are playing.

I am getting tired of these Charger fans short and smirky replies to anything we say and I hope they come back here monday to take the f---ing hammering from us that they deserve. They claim to be here to be talk football and be nice but it has been getting really ugly and its only thursday. I would prefer they just shut up and spend time on thier own sites.

Nuances? Meaningful statistics? Simplistic lens of mainstream media coverage? I'll agree with you that the bandwagon attracts a certain element that reflects your position.

But... walk with me now down memory lane...
Look at the Patriots' history prior to winning their first Superbowl. I seem to recall them being pretty damned futile. I mean, a couple of Superbowl appearances where they got thoroughly embarrassed (much like the Chargers in their lone appearance). Sporadic playoff appearances (much like the Chargers), plenty of abysmal seasons (much like the Chargers), and pretty much viewed as a joke whenever they appeared on the brink of success (much like the Chargers).

So I wonder how educated most Pats fans were in the "nuances" of the game prior to their first Superbowl win. But now... oh... well... the game is just too complicated for Chargers fans to comprehend. Because, "we're the Patriots and Bill Belichick has made us the greatest football minds in NFL Fandom." You probably don't remember trying to justify to people prior to that 2001 Superbowl victory why the Patriots had a chance because "look at what Tom Brady has done since he's taken over"... it's so far in your rearview... your mind has lost it.

Meaningful statistics... there's only one stat that really matters. It appears in the win column. So based upon that one statistic, I'd say my Chargers have as good a chance to win this game as your Patriots. Wouldn't you agree? I'd say based on that one stat column that Philip Rivers has as good a chance of beating your vaunted Patriots as did Tom Brady vs. that vaunted Pittsburgh Steelers D in Three Rivers in 2001.
Wouldn't you agree?

Will it happen? Well, that's why they play the game.
How's that for simplistic?

Brady is highly overrated. He's had the luxury of good staff and coaching around him. Take those away and he's nothing. Put pressure on him and he folds and throws temper tantrums towards his own team.

Overrated? you know nothing ... a statement like that makes you look
real real dumb. :rocker: a HOF QB is overrated?
Coaching staff throws the ball now?

Now tell me Ok mr Knowlegeable .... what QB does well when a he's got
a defender in his face all day? ( clue ... that QB is 10 feet tall )

what message board do you hang out when Chargers aren't playing the PATs? I'd like to see if they are all like you.

Nickel, in fairness to both you and the other poster, there has been a large amount of Charger fans who just pound their chests and scream, "14-2! 61!" and refuse to comment rationally on reasons why a 12-4 team with 47 sacks might be able to compete.

I can say with certianty that the near universal opinion was that a game with San Diego would probably favor SD. Many opinions changed because of the bravado that Charger fans have displayed.....rightly or wrongly.

Personally, my opinion changed when I really analyzed the numbers and found that these two teams are incredibly even. I am willing to admit that Olshansky's return may very well throw off the numbers. But if not, then NE most definitely has a chance and it isn't because of BB genius or Schottenheimer's idiocy. Both teams are just very, very good.

Thank you. That's all I'm really gettin' at. I hate when the geeks whip out their calculators and try to predict the game based on DVOY (or whatever that Football Outsiders stat is). I hate it even more when fans of the team I love come in here and make our entire fanbase look bad. Most of the people who do that haven't followed this team long enough to know what we've been through to get here. Which is why I admire the Pats so much. Our histories are very similar... or at least that's how I see it.

if I'm the Pats, I'm more worried about the fact that DESPITE Rivers 2 worst games of the season the Chargers STILL won both games vs playoff teams.

Rivers may struggle on Sunday, he may not. I don't really know. The point is that even if he does that doesn't guarantee victory for the Pats.

So, maybe BB & Co. will focus some on stopping LT?? Think so. Pats did fairly well against Marshall Faulk in SB XXXVI. And how about Westbrook of the Iggles? He didn't get it done, either. Maybe the Pats will be able to find a way to stop Mr. All-Cosmos, LaDainian.

That's why we play the games.

Nope just laughing on why an absolute tool you are. Funny how even your fellow Pats fans dislike you.

Tools are ones who register on other peoples fan boards to start crap under the guise of "discussing the game"

You must have low self esteem if you are worried what a bunch of strangers you never met think about you
