Dumb move on their part. Very immature and unsympathetic move.
I understand they're friends with Hernandez and went to college with him, I actually have no with them supporting Hernandez behind the scenes or even as Deion Branch did in the media. I think we've all had friends that make mistakes and we stand by them despite the fact we disagree with their actions.
Wearing those hats however makes a mockery out of a situation that is very serious.
Ha.He shouldn't be in jail based on the junk they call evidence and based on the fact that he's a first time offender. It's an obvious witch hunt, I guess it's nothing new up there.
I wonder where I can buy one.
Makes me wonder if they are really that dumb or is there a mantra with NFL players that they are above the law and they honestly think Hernandez can get out of this because of his status.
They're allowed to think and say that someone awaiting trial is innocent, you uptight nitwits.
Just because we disagree doesn't make their stance offensive.

I would hold some horses here. We do not know they think he is innocent of the crimes, we know they are wearing "Free Hernandez" hats. There are several possibilities here:
1. We know they were questioned with him in the FL shooting years back. Perhaps they are involved with "bad Hernandez" and are just as morally bankrupt as he is.
2. Perhaps they don't care at all about him and just think it's a funny fashion statement because they know someone famous in jail.
3. Perhaps they, as you say, believe he is innocent.
Fact is, it's not only stupid because the sentiment should be reserved for the wrongfully imprisoned political activist ilk, but it's also stupid because there's no way for anybody to know the motivation for it. So they're making a public statement that most/many will find offensive with no real option for anyone to interpret what the hell it means. And don't forget- NFL players ARE representing their teams at all times. And both their teams passed on taking Hernandez off waivers, and part of that had to be because taking him would be a PR nightmare. So they're inviting a PR nightmare their teams fully intended to avoid.
There is absolutely NO scenario where them wearing those hats is okay. Not a single one. We can't keep refusing to accept the obvious because we don't want players to be bad people. The failure to recognize that some of them are is exactly why an Aaron Hernandez can exist in the NFL in the first place.

Not just "Free Hernandez" but CT homies threaded retribution against Ortiz for cooperating with the prosecution
Hernandez accomplice labeled a 'rat' in his neighborhood
Apparently CT residents think it's OK for a NYT "white hispanic" to murder a black man
What is a "white Hispanic"? He was a Hispanic Jew actually...
I'm Indian fwiw...
