Agreed that Hightower is top 3 LB in the league. I think he's a great player. BUT, i think Van Noy might be the worst starting LB in the league. Roberts is decent against the run but a complete liability in the pass.

But what you and a few other posters are missing is the Pats have only 2 of their "true" lbs on the field most of the time-and and one of them is High.(when healthy) . They often have 6 dbs, 2lbs and 3 dl. Sometimes High is the ONLY lb- in dime w. 4 dl. Wise and Flowers can both play a little of the olb role, plus 2 of brown,branch,guy. Our dl are obviously better than all the non-High lbs.
Not to mention chung often plays lb in dime.
So with a healthy High,- our lb crew automatically becomes very good and the defense gets much better.
High is obviously the most important and most irreplaceable defender on the team.
