This team needs some talent at LB and on the d-line. They need another corner opposite Gilmore.

I imagine Foles won the MVP. I didn't even watch the ceremony. Thisdefense has had a history of making decent QBs look great.

I won't even hear sports radio or watch anything until the draft comes around. It's dissapointing

LMFAO. The guy who brought up autism and compared the regular season benching of Jonas Gray to the benching of Butler, but only on defense, for the entire superbowl is calling my argument absurd. Keep digging buddy, there's gotta be a clue down there somewhere.

How dense are you ? I am not comparing anything but saying that BB has rules and if Butler broke one of those then he deserved the same kind of benching that players in the past got. Doesnt matter if it is the preseason, a Browns game or the friggin SB.

You are arguing against one of the fundamental pillars of the entire Patriots program.

When it comes to getting things done, especially critical things, forget the high flyers: "You have to go with the person who you have the most confidence in, the most consistent," Belichick says. "And if it doesn't work, it doesn't work, but I'm going down with that person."

Again argue about that all you want but it is all in character for BB.

Right, Chung played in the slot so Richards played Chung's usual hybrid safetybacker position and two things became clear: Chung, who is one of the best box safeties in the league, is a bad cover guy playing at the line in the slot and Richards shouldn't be playing in the NFL at all.
Which makes it all go full circle in saying it made NO sense for Malcolm to be on the bench. None.

I think people would be more comfortable had it been a demotion to CB3 (maybe even DB6)) rather than a benching.

Truly the biggest headscratcher I've had with Bill. I mean, even on his ballsy calls that blow up in our face, you can objectively say "If it would have worked, then he's a genius"

Either there's a legitimate reason, or someone was not, at all, thinking about the team. Wow. Phew, it flusters me more by the second - I need to stop.

If Richards is going to get this many snaps his position becomes a priority in the offseason. Find someone that can actually do the job that Richards is in there to do because he can’t cover anything.

Well all those lost picks hit today. Congrats to The 31.

If I were butler no ****ing way would I play another snap for this team.

I would be absolutely distraught -

Oh wait, he was. Crying at the beginning of the game.

Would not blame him for finding a new coach.

Neither of the bolded is something that was unknown prior to this game, either.

pats with 3 receivers over 100 yards...

You absolutely compared the benching of Gray and Revis to this benching. The fact that you're claiming you made no comparisons has made meaningful discourse impossible. If it wasn't a comparison, why did you bring it up and phrase it as if it were. The fact that you're claiming you didn't speaks volumes of the strength of your argument.

As for arguing against of the "pillars of the Pats organization", you are right. It's a very difficult thing for me to do. That said, this behavior is totally inconsistent with BB's past behavior, and it was genuinely hard to even see, because of my extreme bias.

Given that Butler played ST, a critical factor that you have yet to even try to explain, there are no, plausible explanations that have been presented that could explain such an inconsistency. A failure to recognize such an obvious inconsistency is what happens when one refuses to question a strongly held belief. When the obvious nature of such inconsistnecies are pointed out and discarded without any plausible explanation there is no need for further discussion... unless you're in the market for a slightly used bridge.

This is a very had conclusion for a huge BB fan to come to, but an almost inavoidable one when approached with an open mind. I truly hope I am wrong.

I have no idea what Butler's illness was 4-5 days ago, but an illness that gets you admitted for iv fluids, probably was serious especially if it was the flu. It is also entirely possible that BB did not allow Butler to interact with the rest of the team for fear of getting other players sick all week. Lack of practice, and being physically not 100% is an easy reason to not have him play. Just imagine the uproar if Butler got injured while playing with the flu.

I suspect that the main reason why Butler was dressed was because he would be the replacement for an injury. BB and MP probably felt that 100% Rowe was better than a less than 100% Butler. I guess we will never know.

Butler being benched will come back to haunt Belichick. One of the worst coaching moves in the history of Pat’s football. To have Richards play any role at all, besides special teams, is NOT “giving the team a better chance to win.” Maybe there is dissension in the locker room like in the article. Gronk talking about “thinking about his future”, not starting Butler, Not playing Branch, who Maybe helps stop the run ? Just nauseated by this whole thing. I can’t see the Pats recovering from this. I really think that was their last chance to win another SB under the Brady/Belichick regime. It will take 3-4 years to rebuild this defense, it was just horrible.

Really is a feeling of sadness and loss. I feel worse for Brady than I ever felt. He was godlike once again, but people are already saying he choked. Maybe we did too much celebrating and taunting the Falcons after the miracle win last year. Not looking forward to seeing the reaction videos on YouTube. Just depressing. I know we as Pat’s fans are spoiled, but the pain is real. It’s such an empty feeling of anger and disgust. I have anger towards Belichick and Patricia (I’m happy he’s gone, horrible coaching job). This loss hurts more than the Giants game in 2007, because they had a chance and enough time to win it. Giant’s game, there wasn’t enough time after the Giants score. I will never get over the strip sack and horrible coaching in this game.

May I add, the Gillislee move instead of signing Blount was a massive blunder which probably cost a Championship as well. Didn’t like the move when it happened, unfortunately I was right. The chemistry of the team was hurt by not having Blount there, and he got his revenge. Bad move by Belichick the GM.

I remember Bill always saying "It's the players who win the games and the coaches who lose 'em"

Well, did a real good job of providing quite literally the most concrete example of that tonight.

Please retire TB12. This defense is junk and will cost you another ring. Don’t waste another year. You gave it your all. **** this defense.
