Perhaps the hardest position to fill in the 3-4 defense, yet the most important position in the 3-4 defense.
Position Requirements: Great base and the ability to play low with outstanding leverage. Must be able to control both "A" gaps while anchoring against double teams on almost every play.
Rankings:
1.) Poe - Memphis. Cut from the Ted Washington mold. Will need a lot of work on pad level and technique. Mid to late first round.
2.) Ta'amu - Washington. Will need a ton of technique work and must get stronger. Mid to late second round pick.
3.) Williams - UNC - Again a ton to learn as far as technique goes, but should be able to play the position. Late second to early third.
4.) Chapman - Alabama Experienced in playing the position in our defense in college. Same size as Wilfork. Needs more sand in the pants.Mid third round
Sleeper: Martin - Michigan. Again same size as Wilfork, but needs more sand in the pants. Sixth round pick at best.
