When will the patriots draft their first player?

I'd guess a 15% chance we trade up into the 11-16 range; 35% chance we trade down into the 18-22 range, leaving a 50% chance we stay put and take someone who falls to us.

I'm going with 11-16. Belichik has the luxury of moving up for a player he wants because he can replenish the pick used by trading out of #28, #33, or both. If a prospect he really wants is there after #10 he'll find the trading partner and go get them.

I voted 23-27 but it could be the Colts at 22. I see Jordan and Watt being off the board at 17 and the Pats trading back for Wilkerson, either picking up a third rounder or swapping one of our thirds for a second rounder. Question is, would we trade with the Colts and help them get an LT to better protect Manning?

If someone wants Poncey, Taylor or a certain qb we trade down for say a mid second,a mid third & 3rd next year. Then trade 28 for a first next year & a fourth this year.

Going nowhere

Staying at 17 for sure

I voted 18-22. I fear, unfortunately, that Jordan, Watt & Kerrigan will all be gone by 17.
Should that happen, I hope that Bill trades down into the 18-21 range for a 4th-rounder.
Heywood and/or Wilkerson should still be available, though if Derek Sherrod is also there,
I would be tempted to take him instead and hope that Heywood/Wilkerson lasts until 28.

This is where I voted too. I chose this hoping that we either like Heyward/Wilkerson more for our system, or that we end up taking one or the other due to the 'other guys we like' being gone at 17.

I do not expect either Heyward or Wilkerson to last until 28 though, I think that is wishing and hoping--which is something I hope we do not do. The safer choice is to take one or the other in the early 20's.

Cant see a GM being dumb enough to snag Kerrigan in the top 20, vastly overrated.

Where do you rank him with Houston, Ayers, Sheard & Reed,
and at what spot would you be more comfortable picking him?

Trader Bill will probably trade out of the 1st and 2nd Rounds to take about 15 3rd rounders - cheap and still top 100 college guys. How much fun would that be? Andy Katzenmoyer? Daniel Graham? Jamarcus Russell? Ryan Leaf? Laurence Maroney? Adrian Klemm? Cam friggin' Newton?!? This screwing around with prima donnas from the 1st and 2nd round is for the birds. Some of those guys got hurt which is not their fault really. I feel awful to this day about Robert edwards at the rookie pro-bowl beach game.

But it's those 3rd and 4th round guys that are fun to look for anyway. The other thing to watch for is Trader Bill drafting guys from the same team like he's done with players from the SEC. They support one another in camp and practice, are used to living together and make it easier on the coaching staff. Trader Bill ought to go real heavy on the Boise State guys, I think.
