So Marcus Jones wasn't the least money possible?

They gave him more just so they aren't being mean like Bill?

It was a joke of a double standard if you want to play semantics with words then you just show more bias.
Kudos to Marcus for getting a contract like that operating without an agent... wich I'd never recommend..but Vrabel's running the show now..

Yup so the hater crew will Praise Vrabel for things that when Bill did them he was a meanie

Haters double standard day at Patsfans today.

Bill gets a player to take a less than market deal he is a big bad meanie and is "trying to beat them down and get them to sign for the least money possible" Vrabel does it and you state "the player wants to stay in Nee England and play for Vrabel."

Clown show.

Belichick's record of his contract negotiating has been known for decades, he brought players in and focused almost exclusively on negatives, and tried to get them to sign for as little as he possibly could. Whether it was Gronk, Edelman, Law, Amendola,Wilfork, Brady or any other player in a Patriots uniform he was always as difficult as possible. And what I said about Vrabel is that I believe he will operate completely opposite of Belichick in contract negotiations, and will instruct Wolf to offer fair market deals to players, but not to go very far above that with them. The Marcus Jones negotiations were an example of that. When asked about aigning the new deal he said that he didn't use an agent, but talked to "Coach and Elliot" and reached what appears to be a fair deal for both sides. Vrabel was on the other side of the table from Belichick, and he knows what it's like to be a player negotiating deals with teams, so I don't believe he's going to try and tear players down. However, that's my belief, and it could be right or wrong, we will see. Unlike you I'm not mentally ill, and I don't believe that my beliefs are the one and only true reality, they are just my beliefs, and people can disagree and question them any time they want to. I'm sorry about your mental illness, I'm sure it's a struggle, but if you try you might be able to remedy your lack of reading comprehension. It will surely take some work on your part, but I would recommend it to you. Maybe try an adult education English as a Second Language course? Have a good day rooting against the Patriots, I'm sure it will make UNC's record better.

Got it you believe everything Vrabel does is righteous and everything Bill does is evil.

I think if we win more this year we might be able to get agents to sign on pretty good fair market deals as opposed to what we paid for Carlton davis.

So I like the concept of Vrabel building out players in house and paying them market rates whereever possible .

As a long term strategy it's probably better to resign your agents too as it might be 10-15 % lower than what outside free agents might command. That saves quite a bit to spend on prove it 1 year deals .

The fact that we got Maye humming is going to be huge for next year as we might get more vets to sign for below market rates in quest for a ring .

Agreed. On everything. Well said!

Faster Troy Brown?..

He couldn't hold Troy Brown's jock, not in reliability, hands or route running.....Will he ever learn to not run through a zone and sit down in his route....thats the real question.

He's a nice little player, has had a few good games recently.....thats about it.
Pop has emerged recently due to McD calling plays for him that avoid him having to navigate short field traffic and sense the zones. His success has come from giving him outside, deeper routes that are easier for him and Maye to read the same way. Maybe someday he'll get it and become the slot receiver a la Brown/Welker/Edelman that everyone expected but he's not there yet.

FFS…why do we have to carry on like this?

Pop needs to keep this going with Boutte back

It's not how you start it's how you finish. Pop is finishing very well and he's getting Josh McDaniels Offense. The diversity of the Patriots Offense will confuse Defenses: I love Pop's upside.

Great post.

I am not optimistic. If a WR does not get it after 3 years, the chance of emerging in Y4 is slim. Pop is who he is.

Reminder: Troy Brown wasn’t always the OG TB you seem to recall.

- TB was in either his first (IIRC) or second season in the 96 SB season. Tuna (may he rot in hell, or at least purgatory for a while for this) held him off the active list for SB cause he ‘wasn’t good enough’. He was Drew’s goto guy when under duress the back half of that season, but it was still ‘justifiable’, cause he didn’t jump off the field looking like a top draft pick.
- TB spent the next 3 years on the roster cusp/ back end. IIRC he didn’t really come into his own til like 2002.

Pop has already had some success and shown more at this stage of his career than TB did at same age. I also doubt, like you, that Pop could ever be the all round guy that TB or Edeldude was.

But then too; Troy B was never known as a burner either. So for someone to say a ‘faster’ TB is not a bad wish. ….it just may be very unlikely. But your ‘can’t hold his jock’ is a little over the top….it was a wish or a possibility.

BOTTOM LINE ( BL)
: Guys who are as committed to improving themselves like OG TB, JE, & TB12 just don’t grow on trees. But we can still hope for Pop to work to the tradition in Foxboro.

agreed
A solid #4 WR is well worth having

I don’t think he’d be the best option for a slot receiver in the usual McDaniels offense, that player may come in the offseason or maybe Chism will finally get a chance to show out. Been watching a lot of old Pat’s games from the Brady era, and man Edelman, Branch, Brown and Welker were so quick.

Just the way they got open so often and so quickly. They made it look so easy. A lot of it could’ve been due to Brady’s quick release. And Brady was so accurate as well. I don’t know why Douglas is doing things differently in this offense. But he’s averaging a little over 2 catches per game. He’s tied for 6th on the team in receptions.

The usual Pat’s slot receiver under Weiss/McDaniels was an extension of the run game, catching short passes early and often. Often being a 3rd down staple converting 1st downs. I don’t think Douglas is the answer. He’s done some good things, but not enough to be considered a good slot receiver in the NFL.

Pop has another full year in the Offense for basically peanuts. I'm optimistic he can get much better next year. Like say a poor man's Edelman/Welker.

I like when he has the ball in his hands. Pats need to find a way to get him the ball more.
As long as he doesn't trip over his own feet.

I do not THINK Pop has serious upside so I'd only resign him with a modest offer. Remember how BB (unwisely) let The Squirrel go get an offer (Jete) on his own? Coulda been a devastating blow to TFB's 2nd SB ring run were he to have left. I always thought that Edelperson had mucho upside unlike Pop.
