Surgery could end career of Bengals LB Pollack
Associated Press

CINCINNATI -- Bengals linebacker David Pollack will need surgery for the cracked bone in his neck, likely ending his football career.

Pollack cracked the bone while making a tackle against the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 17 and was placed in a halo brace that immobilized his neck. Doctors told him that if the fracture healed on its own, he could resume his career.

The 2005 first-round draft pick was examined Thursday by a specialist who recommended surgery on the fracture, which hasn't healed as hoped. Pollack is expected to have the operation in the next few weeks.

Neither the Bengals nor Pollack had any comment on the development.

...

Sucks to see such a young player's promising career ended so abruptly.

Indeed, it's sad to lose his football career, but the good news is he isn't paralyzed and had the opportunity to acquire a nest egg as a first round selection. Good luck kid.

I'm glad he's going to be ok - still, I'm a little disapointed I won't have a chance to tell any more Pollack jokes.

Almost like Andy Katzenmoyer but Andy was not hurt as badly.
