I'm basing this on how I believe the actual all-decade team voters are using for a defined time period. Again, this is because the last all-decade team was announced prior to Super Bowl 44, so Brees's Super Bowl win did not count for 2000-2009. The voting took place before that game and presumably before any 2010 postseason events.

I believe if this is the case than the 2010 postseason would not disappear but counts for the 2010s decade, despite that the 2010 postseason is an extension of the 2009 season. A stupid way to do it? Absolutely. But I think that is how they defined the time periods, with the literal calendar years and not season-by-season.

I'm not completely stuck on using this same criteria as the official NFL voters; I was just looking to establish consistency. Perhaps a different timeframe should be used considering the problem with breaking up the 2009/10 and 2019/20 regular seasons and postseasons.

I hear you, and I'm not griping about the rules. I'm just responding to them as I feel is reasonable. If you count all of the 2009 season, we might want to rearrange our lists (Brees won the SB, for example). If you count the upcoming playoffs, we might want to rearrange our lists (Manning can't add to his data and position, but some of the other top QBs can). But we can't include a playoffs that haven't happened yet, and I'm not going to give a playoff run from an earlier season consideration, because it's nonsensical to me. If the people choosing the team use that playoff run, that's folly on their part, IMO, because splitting seasons makes no real sense outside of the non-random randomness of regular season/post season cutoff dates.

Do you think Brees’s 2010 Super Bowl (from 2009 season) should count? Here is what I wrote (with a few clarification) about that and why I think it does count:

No it should not count.

Manning only played 5 years in the decade. Had an absolutely dominant 2013 season but was a walking corpse his last year and a half and was carried to the 2015 title by the defense.
He also had an off year in 2010 (many predicted he was in decline) and missed all of 2011.

This decade aside from Brady, only two QBs went to two SBs: Manning and Wilson. They both went 1-1, but Manning got clobbered in one (lost to Wilson) and the D won the other one. Wilson was a INT away from going 2-0.

Manning already was 2nd team QB for 2000 decade and was at end of his career. It has to be Wilson, who continues to lead his team into playoffs.

1. Brady
2. Wilson
3. The rest

I'm gonna call it 2010 playoffs through 2019 regular season (so this year's playoffs don't count).

Peyton: 5 years, 1,893-2,849 (66.4%), 21,812 yds, 7.7 y/a, 173 td, 70 int, 99.4 rating
2 SB appearances, 1 SB title, 4 pro bowls, 2 all-pro, 2 MVP

Brees: 10 years, 4,170-5,997 (69.5%), 46,770 yds, 7.8 y/a, 345 td, 127 int, 102.9 rating
1 SB appearance, 1 SB title, 9 pro bowls

Rodgers: 10 years, 3,187-4,925 (64.7%), 38,145 yds, 7.7 y/a, 305 td, 63 int, 103.6 rating
1 SB appearance, 1 SB title, 7 pro bowls, 2 all-pro, 2 MVP

Very tough call. I'd say Manning over his 5 years was the best, but you can't go only 5 years and win player of the decade (non-Brady edition) unless those 5 years were so over the top dominant compared to your competitors that it's just not even close. Think Pedro Martinez-level dominance in 1999-2000. This...isn't that. Manning was great, but missing 5 years kills his candidacy, IMO. So between Brees and Rodgers, it's close. I'd go with Rodgers, based on 2 all-pros, 2 mvps, a better passer rating, and doing it while playing outdoors in Green Bay, rather than in the comforts of the Dome and playing in the south.

2010 decade runs from 2010 to 2019. Bress 2009 SB doesn't count.

Brees had the same bad luck as Marino, playing in the shadow of Brady/Manning last decade and Brady/others this decade. He hasn't won anything this decade and has been in playoffs 6 times (including this year) in 10 years. Wilson has been in playoffs 7 times (including this year) in 8 years he's played, missing only 2017.

Yeah, the only player who probably gets in with a Pedro type of shorter dominance is Revis. He’s been on every all-decade list I’ve seen so far. He was toast after 2014, but he was so good in his prime that he’s deserving.
