Podcast: Do We Like Or Hate The Jimmy Garoppolo Trade For The Patriots?

Russ Goldman

In this episode, we looked back at the victory for the Patriots against the Chargers. Later on in the show, we shared out NFL Topics that we discussed for this week. However, we started the show by discussing the Jimmy Garoppolo trade for the Patriots.

We hate it because we hate change and we wish players had the same view of the Pats as us homers. Sigh...

I hate that the Pats can't keep him.

The reason they can't keep him is that he wants to play, and he won't get playing time here.

However... I love the reason he won't get playing time here.

But the 'reason' he won't get playing time can't play forever...

...or can he?

I just can't think about it anymore...

...getting dizzy. o_O

Well considering the pats were never going to franchise him and he wasn’t open to a team friendly contact extension (can’t blame him) I liked a high 2nd compared to at best a low 3rd comp pick

I wish we would have kept him for the rest of the year and simply got a comp pick for him when he signs elsewhere. It seems like the QB insurance for the half the year would be worth losing the pick upgrade.

I am also concerned we might regret this decision in a couple of years.

As Belichick usually says, "we do what we think is in the best interest of the team"

Easy for you to say!

I do not love the trade and I do not hate the trade. I accept it.

The pick upgrade from 33 or 34 to the last pick in the third round is enormous.

For example, last year Belichick might have traded for a 2nd, 3rd and 4th from the bottom third of the teams (see KC for example). Alternatively, consider the draft capital we'll have from picking twice in a row at 32 and 33.

dafoe is thinking of something really clever to troll us with regarding it

Does that about cover it?

I do not love the trade and I do not hate the trade. I accept it.

I suspect that many feel as you do. I also suspect that you would like cutting JAG at the end of the season even less.
