Are we going to need a new number 3# QB. Or just stay with two, assuming Jacoby goes.

Biscuit ain't gone yet?? Asking for a friend.

They will have a 3rd QB. My view is that they should take a flier on a QB with a potentially high ceiling every year. Be it drafted, undrafted free agent, or one released by another team who has a high upside. If you can develop them they are always valuable. If they don’t evolve you try the next one. No harm no foul.

I am 100% on board with taking a 5th or later QB every year, they develop incredible, they dont they go on the practice squad and compete with next years draft pick. Give them 2 years to show something rinse and repeat. Simply because if you do get one, look at what some people are projecting Joe Milton to get, its the biggest bang for your buck in the trade world possible. If you can turn a 5th, 6th, or 7th into a 2nd or 3rd every other year thats a huge advantage and worth a late round flyer.

6th and 7th round picks are lottery tickets so you might as well go for the lottery ticket at the position of most importance.

LB, WR, Tackle, CB are positions with more success than other positions in 6th and 7th round but even that success rate is terrible.
If you had 1 pick in the 7th round for the next 25 years, the number of starters you'd expect out of those 25 picks is 1.

Aren't guard and center the positions with most success down there?

I'd do a late pick or rookie free agent for a camp arm.

Nah just go with 2 right now. We aren't going for a playoff run next year and we have so many holes we should be going BPA every chance we have. If we were in a window, I'd say have the insurance. We aren't in a position to worry about insurance. And this dude won't even be on the team by the time we are even in a spot where we have to worry that an injury could kill our playoff chances.

I have a long post putting together that breaks down all NFL starters on offense and defense that were drafted by the team they are starting on and Guard was just behind we in round 6 but only 1 in round 7, Center was low in 6th and none in 7th

Most interesting thing from the breakdown was that ZERO defensive lineman were starting from the 6 or 7th round for the team that picked
Them so don’t even bother selecting one after the 5th round

Ain't nothing wrong with trying to find the next Brady or Purdy. in Rounds 5 - 7 I'm ok with a developmental QB. Give a Howard - McCord - Rourke or Leonard.

D-line gets a lot of love at the top of the draft. If someone even considers the idea that you can go after the QB..... you'll get snatched up eventually even if it's a risk.

I would rather sign a vet for short money and have some experience in the room as opposed to 3 guys with two years collective in the league.

Donovan Smith QB Houston. He's projected as having Day 1 talent, but is a project. He's predicted to be a Day 3/UDFA (although I suspect that he will get drafted). He has the makings of a decent #3/Developmental QB.

OTOH, the NFL now incentivizes having three QBs on the 53 via the QB3 rule.

I think if Jacoby moves on you just bring in another Jacoby type. Guy who’s got some starts through his career but is a backup, have him challenge JM3

If Will Howard is available at 6, take him.

In general, I'm a fan of the draft a QB every year strategy. Obviously trust the board and don't take one just for the sake of taking one. And considering the fact that we have Maye and Milton, maybe you can lean toward pausing it for a bit too.

Not to sound like a broken record because I say this on every thread basically about both the draft and free agency, but it really comes down to your honest, thorough, and detailed evaluations and scouting of guys available. if there's a QB you really like and see potential in late in the draft, you should probably take him.

I'd rather get someone who has a shot of actually being a contributor on the field even if just a depth piece so guys can be fresh.

Maye and Milton are fine. If we lose both of them, just get someone from the trash heap, this team isn't good enough to even endure losing Maye and they are more likely than not going to be a non playoff team WITH Maye. We can worry about getting insurance for our insurance with draft capital when we have something worth getting insurance for.
