From the PFT rumormill

"Jets coach Eric Mangini has said that he concluded in the offseason that off days are important to keep players healthy and fresh.

Mangini is putting his research to work this year. Practice on Tuesday has been canceled. Thus, over the next six days, the Jets will practice on two of them, play a game on one of them, and do nothing on the other three.

The next day of work for the Jets will include two practices on Wednesday. Then they’ll have one on Thursday before hosting the Redskins on Saturday night.

It might be a good strategy for avoiding injury and fatigue, but it’s not the ideal way to get a certain recently-arrived quarterback up to speed for the start of the regular season."

With all the new players on that team, a revamped linebacker group, and a new QB who has played exclusively in west coast offenses his entire career...you would think the Jets need MORE practice, not less.

Who gives a crap what the Jets are doing. Let's worry about our own team.

All of that wont matter, NE will crush them on Wk 2...and yeah who gives a crap what they do.

Yeah, I saw the post on PFT, but didn't really find it much of a story. If it works, Mangini will get back his Mangenius title. If it doesn't, Mangini will probably be shown the door.

I think Belichick does it right with full, hard going practices while holding out certain personnel in some practices. Time will tell if the Jets are making the right decision. On it's face, it looks like the wrong one since they have so many new personnel, but who knows/

It's well known that the best way to bond for a bunch of new players who ever played together before is to cancel practice and have the team go to the mall and catch a movie.

Gosh, how times have changed. It used to be that you'd just put a big axe in the locker room and invite them to chop some wood.

I'm not worried about the Jets, just looking for every opportunity to knock the organization.

No disrespect intended to the "Who gives a crap?" crowd, but I thought the OP was interesting.

With the lack of NFLE exemptions, there are fewer players in practice and so injuries are of greater significance in terms of having enough camp fodder to sufficiently fill all the spots. Coaches appear to be taking different approaches when it comes to limiting the injuries to their players, particularly the important ones.

In the case of the Jets, they are giving all the players more days off.

For the Pats, it appears that BB is being more cautious bringing back players on PUP and also being cautious with all injured players in terms of practice. Hence the enormous list of players that miss practice... I think the latest was like 21 players.

I agree with the stinkypete's assessment that giving all players more days off is a poor approach for a team with a lot of new players. It might be more effective on a team that is mostly unchanged.

Player's already think Rodney is dirty...wait til he gets his hand on an axe!

lets ask hanson if that's a good idea. i'll bet he'd rather go to the mall.
