Why not? He's still a good coach. He seems like a good egg, and I wish him well.

At 73 yikes.
Pfft. After 50 or so, it really is just a number. My mother died at 102 a couple of years ago, and until the last two weeks she was doing two hard crosswords every day, managing all of her quite complex affairs, and could think and argue circles around anybody. I've got a couple of nephews, on the other hand, in their twenties, who can barely figure out how to open a cereal box.

Speed is always available. Hell, we can always resign Thornton. Speed without the requisite skills of a quality WR means nothing
Thanks for the lecture boy I didn't know that.

Carrol will put together a good staff and his teams compete.
Very good hire.

I don't see it as a great hire. I don't think he was that sharp the last few years with the Seahawks and at 73 it won't get better.

It's an impossible situation.

A division with Harbaugh, Payton, and that KC machine. No QB and marginal talent.

How can this possibly work?

It's like a declining player retiring at 33 and trying to make a comeback at 35...it won't end well IMO.

Didn't Gronk do that
Yeah but he was 29 in his last year with the Pats and he missed just one year. He wasn't as good with Tampa but he was good enough.

Sounds like the Raiders prefer a Carroll-type HC from how they didn't respond to McDaniels. I hope they become decent/good, it sucks to see the Raiders be garbage.

That was strange. That said, what if we give #4 to Vegas for their 1st and Meyers back?

Get Jakobi and a Tackle.

Boom.
No, stop going backwards. Move forward. Draft better WR and T talent or sign a legitimate weapon to big money

**** Vermeil did it.

Thought he was about 10 years older. But Vermeil had been away for so long, it felt like he was in his mid 70's.

I think in the right situation Pete could have success.

But the Raiders might be the worst situation in football, and they play in temptation desert.

Deion came back to the Ravens after a couple years off.

Cunningham had a few seasons between His Philly and Minnesota days.

And then there Michael Jordan lol

Comparing Pete Carrol to Deion Sanders. Ok

I thought the Deion and Cunningham examples were pretty apt. We aren't talking the prime for Primetime. MJ was maybe not the best example lol. But I think there are even more examples of coaches doing it not sure how much success though but as @Family pointed out Vermil is probably the one with the success.

I would say that back then there was less stringent testing for PED’s.

A couple players out of what…thousands over the years? Less than 1%.

I don't think Pete will need PEDs.

It was never apples to apples comparison I just thought it would be educational to see what players might actually fit.

As far as coaches go taking a year between jobs doesn't seem uncommon. I guess they typically keep a toe in the water like Vrabel did.

Pete's issue like Bill's is more about aging than time off. And not even how they've aged up to now but how quickly it could happen as each year in their 70's passes.
