Moss injured; Wednesday afternoon notes
by Paul Perillo, Patriots Football Weekly

Another banner day for the offense ended on a sour note when Randy Moss left the practice fields early with an apparent left leg injury. The wideout had been enjoying another strong day before failing to run beneath a Tom Brady bomb. He then went to the sidelines for some treatment before leaving for the locker room.

Who’s hot
Pierre Woods – The second-year linebacker looked real good in a pass rushing drill coming off the edge. Working one-on-one against tight ends, Woods showed a quick first step and consistently made his way to the quarterback.

Who’s not
Randy Moss – He went from hot to not in a split second. After drawing huge ovations from the lively crowd while making several nice catches, Moss appeared to tweak his left hamstring while attempting to haul in a bomb. His day was over at that point.

Play of the day
On one of the rare incompletions for the afternoon, Harrison was in close pursuit of Benjamin Watson as the ball fell to the turf. But one of the four officials on the field dropped a flag, apparently for pass interference, illegal contact or defensive holding. As he would in any regular-season setting, Harrison pleaded his case vehemently, jumping up and down and gesturing wildly.

Extra points
Belichick announced that rookie running back Justise Hairston, who was released last week after being slated to open camp on PUP, was re-signed and placed on injured reserve. Belichick explained that Hairston was originally let go as a procedural move and needed to clear waivers before officially being placed on IR. … The Patriots nine offseason award winners are Tom Brady, Kevin Faulk, Adalius Thomas, Pierre Woods, Chad Scott, Matt Cassel, Stephen Neal, Ty Warren and Wes Welker. … The Patriots spent some time on kick returnes with the pairings consisting of Ellis Hobbs and Willie Andrews followed by Sammy Morris and Wes Welker and then Gemara Williams and Bam Childress. … The second offense, led by Cassel, did not fare as well as the starters. During some two-minute drill work near the end of practice, Cassel had consecutive passes batted down at the line and the group failed to pick up a first down. … Thursday’s schedule calls for two sessions with the morning practice set to run from 8:45 a.m.-10:45 a.m. and the afternoon workout from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

Pierre Woods... maybe the Pats ARE grooming a good, young linebacker. He won a parking space, and he's gotten rave reviews so far.

Good-bye TBC, hello PW.

I really think that might be true..he was the first on the field Tues AMa full 25 minutes before the time when practice began.. At first I wasn't sure who it was..he was a bit taller than Gutierrez...but the way he handled the ball..I could tell he was not a receiver..I think he may make an impact on defense this year.

His name has come up in the highlghts of nearly every day in camp so far. Woods isn't just showing promise, he's doing it consistently.
