by Paul Perillo, Patriots Football Weekly

Who’s hot
Pierre Woods – The second-year linebacker looked real good in a pass rushing drill coming off the edge. Working one-on-one against tight ends, Woods showed a quick first step and consistently made his way to the quarterback.

Extra points
Belichick announced that rookie running back Justise Hairston, who was released last week after being slated to open camp on PUP, was re-signed and placed on injured reserve. Belichick explained that Hairston was originally let go as a procedural move and needed to clear waivers before officially being placed on IR. … The Patriots nine offseason award winners are Tom Brady, Kevin Faulk, Adalius Thomas, Pierre Woods, Chad Scott, Matt Cassel, Stephen Neal, Ty Warren and Wes Welker. … The Patriots spent some time on kick returnes with the pairings consisting of Ellis Hobbs and Willie Andrews followed by Sammy Morris and Wes Welker and then Gemara Williams and Bam Childress. … The second offense, led by Cassel, did not fare as well as the starters. During some two-minute drill work near the end of practice, Cassel had consecutive passes batted down at the line and the group failed to pick up a first down. … Thursday’s schedule calls for two sessions with the morning practice set to run from 8:45 a.m.-10:45 a.m. and the afternoon workout from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
