Per FootballZebras, AFCCG referee likely to be good ole Ed Hochuli

Pats don't usually do well when he officiates. No way they were gonna get Vinovich for sure. Not sure how I feel about this. There is zero chance he swallows his whistle. So, Denver will get a couple of calls. Hopefully the Pats put it so far out of reach it won't matter.

Has Hochuli done a playoff game already this year? If so, who?

edit: Nevermind, he hasn't.

Apparently, Broncos are 7-0 when this guy's the ref? WTF?

Yeah there is some relevance here Broncos fans love that he is the ref.

Hoculi was never going to Carolina. Not after Hoculi allegedly made his "you're too young to get that call, son" comment to Newton. I would have preferred the other guy, but this is the guy who we have to deal with who we have.

My problem is less with what he calls, but the fact his games are full of flags and really slow. The KC game had 9 accepted penalties on both teams combined. Be prepared to get double that on Sunday.....at least

Pats are 10-9 since 1999. 4 of those losses are from 99-00 and 1 this year vs miami.

Broncos are 7-0

since 99 7-1 which those numbers are misleading per win-loss record of opponents:

2-14 houston team
2-14 chiefs
9-7 Bengals
5-11 raiders
8-8 chargers
1-15 chargers

Im sure you could find some ref where the Pats are 8-0 with.

Anyone but Clete Blakeman. That guy is trash. If we make it to the super bowl and we get him god help us all.
That and whichever crew consists of the female. Not because of her specifically, but I remember that crew missing a **** ton of false starts against Philly. Same crew got demoted from their prime time game and got sent to that NE-PHI game as "punishment"

While Hochuli isn't the best, he is far from the worst. Some folks think he talks too much, I'm ok with that part. I'm less happy about the odd stupid call. , I also don't think he personally is all that susceptible to the Blandino-factor.

All that said, My greater concern is that I suspect the stooges have been loaded lower on the crew (particularly in the defensive backfield). They are still "all-star" crews, RIGHT?

So the previous #s and types of calls made by Hochuli's regular crew are rather meaningless for this game.

BUT....How many times do you see a referee wave off a flag thrown by one of the subordinates? ...... Almost never.

So, If the stooges call OPI, then Hochuli is going to go with it unless BB throws a red flag (is that even challengeable?).

Anyway, that's my conspiracy theory.

The 3-4 record for the Pats isn't really though. He reffed the Pats last game of the regular season which is not the same Pats team.

But looking at the last 7 games other than that he has reffed.

Win vs Giants this year
Lost vs Packers last year
Win vs jills '13
Lost vs 49ers '12
Win vs Packers '10
Loss vs jests '10 (reg season)
Win vs Chargers '07 (reg season)

He also reffed the Pats/Steelers game in '08 but Brady was out so not counting that one.

The 3 losses (not counting the lolphins one this year) in hindsight weren't really shocking losses. Packers at that point were a great home team, one mistake by the defense was the difference. 49ers went to the SB that year and the jests knocked the Pats out of the playoffs in '10.

Hochuli in Denver? No way! As I recall, that was the venue where he made his biggest mistake. He blew an inadvertent whistle that cost the Broncos a fumble return and I believe, the game.

He publicly apologized, but Denver was furious. I never thought the NFL* would ever put him in front of them ever again.

Either that, or I'm dreaming it.
The story is right, but you got the teams backwards.

They don't use the same crews in the playoffs. They pick and choose the best of the meager lot. So you could easily get one member of that officiating crew but none of the others.

hochuli also reffed super bowl 38, which we won.
