Jackson Powers-Johnson was projected to picked at 24. Yes, he would be a fine choice. This is a really tough call. I don’t know who else was left but if Jackson Powers-Johnson was still available I would take him, after that I would go with Patrick Paul, then Sumamatai, then Legette. I really like McConkey but the slot is the one WR position they already have well covered.
To me Powers-Johnson is the only blue chip player left at this point ( if he is still there?) and the only reason he isn’t rated higher is because he’s a Centrr, but he could also play Guard if you wanted him to. David Andrews will need to be replaced, and I would rather have the best interior lineman in the draft than the 9th or 10th tackle.
What happens if you are watching the board and there is a run on tackles , would you try and move up by using /adding one of the Pats lower picks in addition to pick 34 to ensure you get a good player ?
That decision at 34 is not as big as the QB but it is a huge decision, that player should be a starter long term at a high level. I think you take the player that's the highest rated between WR and Tackle, whomever that is, but if it is close I take the Tackle because the WR depth gives you a shot at a potential starter in round 3, the Tackle depth seems to end in round 2 for that type of prospect.
If you have someone at WR rated much higher than the Tackle you can still take a developmental tackle later in the draft but likely are pushing that positions long term starter to the 2025 draft, which is fine, this is not a 1 year and fix everything type of roster.
I'd gladly give up a later pick or a pick in 2025 coupled with the 3rd round pick to get back in second round and maybe have a chance to get both positions.
PrettyRickey guy on twitter that seems to be accurate at most things he posts says several teams took him off the board due to attitude issues. Not sure if Pats are one of them but good chance he will be there if true.If Adonai Mitchell was there it would make for a tough call.
That's the thing. Everyone needs QB, OT, and WR, so some are getting over drafted this year, you can count on it, even in a deep draft. that means someone at another position is going to slip, and they can really excel if they have the right guy slip to them at 103 and 137.There’s going to be a long run on tackles, the question is whether you will be taking the 7th or 8th one, which is why I would hope JPJ fell to 34, then take a tackle prospect later.
There was some more context in Bob McGinn’s paywalled article. Reportedly, Mitchell doesn’t do well when his diabetes isn’t under control, but also doesn’t put in the effort to keep it under control.PrettyRickey guy on twitter that seems to be accurate at most things he posts says several teams took him off the board due to attitude issues. PERHAPS I'M THEREThis thread is why we need to manufacture draft capital from our #3 pick, so that we're picking 3 times in the top 40 - e.g.:
- if we deal with Minnesota, we're picking at 11, 23, 34, 68 (and possibly use the 68 to trade back up from 11 to 7 or 8)
- or a smaller trade-down to 6 for the Giants 2nd rounder has us picking at 6, 34, 47, 68, and possibly use 68 to improve 47 to the low-mid 30's

Call up Charles Leno and sign him for a year and take a franchise LT next year with your top 10 pick. What happens if you are watching the board and there is a run on tackles , would you try and move up by using /adding one of the Pats lower picks in addition to pick 34 to ensure you get a good player ?
