Lets assume everyone is 100% healthy. You can't play everyone likely so who do you play?

#1 Edelman. He is automatic. No reason for discussion.
#2 Hogan. Should be automatic as well as he is your big play guy but it is potentially possible he sits. Just very unlikely.

The next 3 are the issue cause no way you sit Slater.

Amendola? He is great at backing up Edelman who you will have no one to back up if he needs to sit. Also he keeps Edelman from doing returns. While the least physically talented of the bunch if things start to go bad who do you want out there? Amendola never drops anything and knows all the routes. He has 100% of Brady's trust. I could see a chance Floyd makes mistakes and the moment is maybe too much for Mitchell... Too amped up. While I think both are very talented having 2 question makes out there is something that makes you reconsider.

Floyd? No one brings his physical skill set. He is a beast blocker and physical after the catch. His hands have been brought into question but since he got here he hasn't dropped anything. Still learning the offense and so could make a big mistakes but without him no WR can bring that physically. Physicality is something you absolutely want in the playoffs.

Mitchell? Young and electric. He has quickly earned Brady's trust but still has not fully mastered the offense as i believe that takes more than 1 year. Is very sure handed and has been clutch. He is a good mix of everything. Good on the outside and down the field. Even showed some good short route quickness but yet to be a master of one skill set. The thing about him is he can back up the intermediate guy and deep guy and is ahead of Floyd in where he is in learning the offense.

Tough choices to be made here.

And last year we had a gimpy Edelman, Amendola and LaDrop. Quite a turnaround.

Depending how much of the offense Floyd is good with, he could get more plays than we might think, he's the most talented of any other than Edelman. I'm just happy we have them all plus Bennett to offset the loss of Gronk.

You dont have to "sit" anyone. You can substitute and rotate them in and out. I assume Edelman will be in on most of the snaps but the other guys can be rotated based on the package or to keep them fresh.

EDIT: It feels really good having 5 solid receivers, 3 solid running backs, and a solid tight end. We are stacked with weapons.

Holy jumping cheesus. Slater is the special teams captain, he is not a receiver. It's a novelty when he lines up there.

Many teams have 5 or 6 WRs active. Having Amendola available could mean an important clutch play every game and sometimes, one clutch 1st, or touchdown decides a game.

Especially with Gronk out, I see no reason they might not decide to sit someone at another position sometime and play all receivers..

Dressing all 5 and Slater puts you in a bad spot. You can only dress 46 guys.

Do you only dress Bennett and sit Lengel? You could but then you are light there.

One will probably be inactive

Do teams really have 5 or 6 WRS active? I don't know but I'd be surprised.

We have had 6 WRs active in the past. I haven't done a survey lately, though.

You could dress all 6 but then you need to go light either on D/STs or TE/OL.

It is possible I just don't know if they do it.

However I wouldn't mind going light on TE potentially. Lengel isn't gonna win you any games and Flemming has shown himself to be a good blocking TE though he is no threat to catch anything unless wide open on a lob pass.

First hit on google was this article. Having 6 receivers with five active, is indeed 5 or 6 active. It's bleacher report, so take it for what it's worth.

Anatomy of a 53-Man Roster in the NFL

Most teams will keep six wide receivers on the active roster but will only dress five for the game unless the sixth player is a warrior on special teams.

If someone has all the rosters of all the teams handy, it would be interesting to see how many teams have only four, like we have had most of the season.

We don't have 6. Receivers on the roster are Edl, Mitch, Hogan, Floyd. That's four. If Amendola comes back that's five.

Unless you think Slater makes this team without playing special teams.

It doesn't matter what Slater plays the important thing is he takes up a slot. That is the key. I don't consider him a WR when it comes down to it. The point remains though whenever the Pats have had to go light somewhere more than not it has been WR. Rarely did they dress or even carry 5 true WRs.

If you sit one, I would guess it would be amendola. Mitchell passed him on the depth chart, and Floyd looks ridiculous.

As far as TEs, Lengel looks to be at least as good (and big) as Scott Chandler.

As long as he's not lining up in the slot.

Yes, he is the all pro captain of special teams. He does not take up a slot as a receiver, because if he did not play special teams, he would be cut in a nanosecond. He has probably played more snaps as a safety. Do we not have safeties because he's played there, his college position?

He started 3 games at safety in 2011.

Maybe carry them all and go one less active on D. It's not like Brown has been seeing the field much lately. Or @ DB we could probably do without Coleman.

Shouldn't be hard if they find value in all. with Gronk out, Lengel isn't likely to become a superstar overnight. Floyd could really fill that gap and, having that secret weapon guy Amendola could keep us from the not enough weapons situation.

Jordan Richards might be less valuable than a guy who could make a big catch, off the top of my head. He's played 11 games.

Dola and not even a question.

Mitchell and Floyd both bring too much to the table.
