Pats to workout WR Mark Clayton Friday

I would be in favor of bringing him in if there were room. He was having a terrific season before his injury. I'll never forget how he almost scored a touchdown off a Kyle Boller Hail Mary pass at the end of regulation in 2007 that would've upset the Patriots on MNF.

I never thought much of Clayton as a pro, but last year he seemed to finally put it all together. Looked like he was having a breakout season until the injury. A torn patellar tendon is tough to come back from though. If he's healthy I'd love to add him to the mix. More likely he'll take a couple additional months to heal up and possibly be a mid season injury replacement.

I like Clayton a lot, and assumed that he would re-sign in St. Louis since they have so much cap space and he and Bradford developed a great rapport. Getting him would instantly make our WR corps significantly better. He was having a fantastic season before his injury last year; if his health checks out, he would be a great signing. On one hand, his not having been signed yet suggests that his health might not check out, but OTOH he did get injured pretty early last season.

Didn't even notice that!

Random fact: From weeks 6-16 (the 11 games Branch played), Branch out-produced Welker and was on "1,000 yards over a 16-game season" pace. I think people are way too eager to ditch him.

Because Welker was like half a year removed from a major knee injury and was having his worst season in a Patriots uniform, while Branch was playing at a high level for the first time since 2004. If one guy's worst is comparable to another guy's best, and you have reason to believe that the latter will return to something resembling full health, then you take the latter player.

That said, I don't want to ditch either of them. If two WRs have to go, I'd rather it be Edelman and Tate.

Put him on the rolodex or speeddial in case of emergency...

Clayton a PUP option? He has not practiced w/ the PATS yet

Is Mark Duper also available? Those guys used to play well together.
