Pats Strength of Schedule....3rd toughest!

Re: Pats Strength of Sched....3rd toughest!

These are the most misleading, most often misquoted stats ever.
When you look back, sure the Raiders had a tough schedule. You define tough schedule by how many games your opponents won. Well, the opponents kicked the crap out of the Raiders, so they have better records because they beat the raiders.

San Diego didn't have an easy schedule. By beating almost every team they played, they made sure their opponents didn't have too good a record.

Exactly, spacecrime.

That schedule looks brutal, with only Cleveland a gimme.

On a second look, Pitt? Are they good anymore? Skins? Dallas?

There are a lot of teams that could be on a downward slide there, plus Buff just had a fire sale.

Also, the Jets could be exposed, or not.

And Miami? what's the good news over there?

There's a lot of familiar names on that schedule that could be on the wrong side of a rebuilding year.

Re: Pats Strength of Sched....3rd toughest!

Really means nothing. The strength of schedule means very little in the NFL when you are using the previous year as an indicator. You would have had a relatively easy schedule last year (based on the previous year's records) if you had the Saints, Ravens, Jets, and Titans on your schedule.

Teams can get significantly better or worse from year to year.
Only a handful of teams either stay consistently bad (Texans, Browns) or good (Pats, Colts). So it is impossible to know how tough your schedule is going to be in the upcoming season in April.

This says it all. No need to look past the one-game-at-a-time philosophy, which remains the annual message sent by Bruschi & Co. to all rookies and unfocused souls in need of guidance.
