Sources have told us the Patriots have done a lot of digging on Brooks, going directly through the UVA coaches and Al Groh, who has a long relationship with Bill Belichick. And while Brooks does not fit the type of player the Pats look for from a character perspective, he may be too good a talent to pass up in round two.

The Supplemental draft is today, anyone know if it is available on-line?

its not like a regular draft..they talk over phone..meetings and results will be released later today (early noon)

The following are some tidbits about Brooks that appeared on www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm this morning. He just doesn't strike me as a Patriots type of player. Never mind the character issues. If this guy can't perform running drills without detailed instructions my guess is he'll have a tough time grasping the Pats' complex defensive schemes.

And there continue to be concerns regarding Brooks' inability during his Pro Day workout to perform some of the running drills without specific and explicit instruction on how to do so -- even though he had been working with a trainer to get ready for the session for weeks.

We also continue to hear that Brooks' former coach at Virginia, Al Groh, isn't doing Brooks any favors by giving his NFL contacts bad reviews regarding the player. Moreover, Brooks has had trouble with his weight. Though he got it under control in time for his Pro Day, the crash course to drop pounds might have left him weaker for the workout than he should have been.

No. There is nothing to see on line. It's not a timed draft like the April draft. Teams just send in to the league office who they want and what round they want them in. The league determines who the highest bidder is and awards them the player. It's kind of like how waivers work. At some point today the league will announce what player(s) have been picked.

Like we've said before, we'll have the best information on Brooks so I'm comfortable either way. Personally I'd be very intrigued if we get him - but if we don't there's probably a good reason especially if he goes later than the 3rd round (meaning we weren't willing to offer a #3).

I heard that by around 2:00 it will be known who got Brooks. He is the only player likely to be drafted out of the 7 eligible players.

We know there is a plan for the cap space we have. It probably has many facets to it. Perhaps Brooks is one facet of it.
I have a feeling that if we want him, we will get him.

If the 7 eligible for the draft aren't drafted, do they become free agents ? Brooks for instance, if nobody drafts him, does he become a free ageant ? He can't go back to college.

I read on NFLDC that through 2 rounds, nobody was selected.

He went to the Bengals in Round 3.

BROOKS TO BENGALS

The Bengals have selected linebacker Ahmad Brooks in the third round of the Supplemental Draft.

It figures.

More to come.
