Pats Scarnecchia To Be Honored By The 33 Touchdown Club
By: Steve Balestrieri

Scarnecchia, is a 43 year veteran coach of the NFL, he's spent all but two of the past 31 years as a member of the New England Patriots ...

a timely honor for a great coach and even greater person. I got to know Scar a little bit back in the days of the Bryant camps while writing a Pats blog. Classy ...focused...humble...hard to judge just how much respect we owe him for the job he's done the past two decades. I mean, look at some of the OL's he built from scraps and castoffs.

Here's to another decade of Dante's input on our Patriots

Well-deserved honor for a truly great coach. Many of the o-lines he has fashioned from some pedestrian talent have been phenomenal. Particularly noteworthy is the fact that he has been kept on by so many head coaches over decades.

The word great is used too frequently to describe good and very good performers and teachers in the sports arena, but Mr. Scarnecchia fits the very definition of a great coach and teacher. He is, and has been, a primary ingredient in the successful recipe that has been the NE Patriots squad for so many years now. Congratulations, Dante!!

I can't remember who this was, but some OL decided that he was going to try and impress Scarnecchia by being at the stadium when Scar arrived.

He gets up extra early, and finds Scar's truck in the parking lot. Not only that, but the engine had already cooled off. :)

ETA: It was Logan Mankins, getting there before 6 AM. :D

Oh, one other Scar anecdote, from Vince Wilfork (same article I linked above):

Molding the players into one unit is where Scarnecchia sets himself apart. He breeds a fierce loyalty and trust among his charges, so much so that defensive lineman Vince Wilfork claims the offensive line is the most tight-knit group in the locker room.

"And if you're not Scar, you better not say anything to that offensive line," Wilfork said. "Those are his guys. I've seen Bill head over there to say something and have Dante tell him, 'Bill, leave us the hell alone."'

Somehow, I see Scar being somewhat, umm, less polite.
