Pats release Crompton

Once Mallett was drafted there was no reason to keep Crompton - even on the practice squad.

One one hand, good for the Pats to cut him now rather than later; it gives him that much more of a chance to catch on with another team.

On the other hand this should have been done the moment teams could cut players, for that very same reason: give him a chance to catch on with another team since there was absolutely no reason to keep him on the roster at that point.

IMO they timed it just right -- they released him as soon as they got a look at Mallett practicing. What if he'd shown up looking fat and lazy? Or what if they'd cut Crompton at the first opportunity, then Mallett was slow in signing (like the top 3 rookies)? Then they'd be running camp with only 2 QBs.

at camp yesterday was already on the punt scout team , never a good sign

The Pats actually used Matt Gutierrez on gameday on STs, and he still lasted two seasons here. . . .

I liked him cause he was "straight outta crompton, crazy mfer named..."

Or was that Compton?
