Competent… aren’t you the guy who was here early/midway last season telling us our offensive line was good? That Okorafor, Lowe, Leverett and Jordan were good players… that they had good PFF grades?

Forgive me if I take your player evaluations and toss them in the garbage. Brown played okay for a game and got tossed around when the opposition improved. He’s a jag.
I never posted that here

Brown was not only extremely reliable, but also very competent. to say otherwise is either someone not watching, or having an agenda.
that's not to say he was great. also not to say both Andrews and Strange could be better. but all 3 are proving to have been unreliable over the past 2-3 seasons. no telling how both Andrews look or feel after missing the entire season.
Insurance, at negligible cost, is a very good thing to have.

many here, including me, are stating Brown is very good insurance. you are arguing Brown is not a very good player (which no one said he was)

typical discission with Wozzy included

Our offensive line was league worst last season and you were telling us the individual players Wolf brought in were good. A lot like you telling us Mac Jones was good in the midst of a 4 game benching.

It was an abominable take… typical conversation with Rkarp.

I was saying too early to make final calls on injured rookie OL Wallace and Robinson
I was also saying Brown signed off another team PS, played effectively from day 1 and was extremely reliable while the team had D Andrews, J Andrews, Strange out with injuries

Mac Jones was good until he wasn't.

an opinion that differs from your take is an opinion. you twisting what someone says each and every time doesn't make you right.

Wallace was playing poorly before injury, Robinson wasn’t much better and weighs 300 pounds soaking wet. I said both of these guys had okay athleticism leaving college and needed a year in the strength and conditioning program. We’ll see this year if they put in the work.

Ben Brown played okay for a game then got abused by better defenders. Like I said, nothing special as an athlete… a jag.
Mac Jones was good until he wasn't.
He was okay for 13 games then fell off a cliff. You were telling us he was good right up until he got cut and he was only bad because of his coach. Then he went to the Jaguars and still sucked.

The truth isn’t open to interpretation.

But you’re still bringing them to camp, using a roster spot and in Browns case wasting your time.
What is the guarantee that either or both contracts have in them that either player makes it to camp?

What is the cost of cutting either player next week?

None and nearly nil

The financial and opportunity costs are at most minimal at this point in the season.

Every team's 75th through 90th signed player in February is at best a long shot JAG.

Why would they extend a player then cut him next week?

Why would they extend a player then cut him next week?
as usual, you miss the point
both players have shown they can play in the league.
they are back end of the roster or PS players. if better players emerge, both can be cut for no money owed.
they will be on the 90 man and here to compete, unless or until some better player emerges.
meanwhile, while J Andrews and D Andrews try to return from season end injury, and C Strange learns a new position, the team has some insurance

The point that I am making is that there is almost no cost to the Patriots about extending either player at these rates with these contracts. If the Pats see a player that they think is better than either of the two signees this afternoon and that player wants to sign with the Patriots, the only cost the Patriots incur in cutting one or both players who were extended is the time for the Assistant GM to send a secure notification to the NFL HQ in NY to cut one or both players as well as whatever the weekly stipend a player gets in the off-season.

Do I want either player to be a starter --- HELL NO --- but that is not the question at this point of the season.
Do I think the Patriots need to have a mostly full roster at this point of the off-season --- YES
Do I think that the bottom of that roster is going to be at best JAGS and more likely guys who would like to improve to be JAGS --- YES
Do I think that there is noticeable differentiation between players who are marginal rosterees at this time --- NO
Do I think there is a slight advantage of having non-differentiated players who know where the parking lot is at the practice facility over brand new faces --- Yeah, slight advantage.

I’d rather they use that roster spot on an UDFA center with some athleticism. That’s my only point.

We’ve spent too much time talking about this jag.

They still can once UDFA players become available after the draft.

Nothing about either extension precludes your preference about roster composition the Wednesday after the draft.

They’ll bring 90 players to camp, 90 is a large number, but they’ll have a lot of other positions to fill beyond center and with both Andrews and Strange they’re loading the boat with centers already.

Like I said, we’ve talked entirely too much about a jag who highly likely won’t make the 53 man roster. I don’t like signing a poor athlete who looked poor when we saw him play last… I shouldn’t have to qualify that for this many pages of a thread.

Not sure but BB did that on a regular and he is the Goat coach so I will follow his actions over your opinion.

In the midst of the season sure, not in the offseason.
