Pats ranked #1 CB duo

the funny thing about Jackson's season last year is people said he was bad but he only allowed 59% and had a 66.3 QB rating against. Some bad plays against Stefon Diggs (who made most CBs look bad last year) and people were all "he sucks" for a comparison Jalen Ramsey was 50.7% and 68.1 QB rating against.

Ramsey was targeted 71 times. Jackson was targeted 83 times.

Which ya Ramsey probably was on the #1 WR most of the time and Jackson wasn't, But Ramsey had a pretty great DL & LB (mainly because of Donald) getting after the QB and Jackson the DL and LB play wasn't good.

Let's see how JC does with a retooled DL & LB in front of him.

You might be right. The whole secondary should look better. Maybe DMac will even stay for another year since he will be having so much fun in 2021 :D .

It was concerning that JC Jackson was CB #1 and Diggs promptly made him look bad. I am not sure people were saying "he sucks", but people were saying "is he a #1?" which is a reasonable question.

Surprising that they would come in so close to each other.

Makes sense. Gilmore a little disgruntled ends up 'hurt' a little more often or mentally not fully invested, he's still great but not at the dpoy level.

A retooled front 7 could bring back the feel of the 2003 season when teams were getting frustrated not being able to move the ball through the air. It really seemed like every time an opposing team faced a 3rd down, it resulted in a punt.

Run D is the X factor.

Jaire Alexander came in at 41. We'll get an idea of the value of their ranking when we see where Ramsey ends up.

having judon this year, could be a huge boost to the pass rush. Against Washington , he was a beast until he got his nuts rung.

judon will see extra blocking, whoever rushes opposite him has a golden chance to rack up some big pressures, hits and sacks.

I always loved JJ and I never understood why posters aren’t more into him. He isn’t D Sanders in his prime. But he IS a very, very valuable player.

On another note, Cynthia F… someone I would like to befriend.
I’ve liked JJ for years. I always thought he might’ve made a difference in SB 52 if he hadn’t been hurt. Our second and third best corners weren’t on the field for that game.

Jackson was a stud last year. Still not a sure thing against the #1 WR, a little shaky, but probably the best CB2 out there.

.

I absolutely agree. I believe we have allocated major $$$ to the position since the 2008-2013 era when we didn't really have a #1 lock down guy between Hobbs, Bodden, Arrington, and Talib who got hurt at the wrong times..... ever since then it has been Revis and Gilmore....
To be fair, it was 2 years of butler and Logan Ryan in 2015 and 2016 right? Along with guys like Rowe, etc.

Not really super high investment there, but butler and ryan did provide a fairly high level of play. And then along came Gilmore

IIRC, Butler was on the 2014 team...but Revis was the main man. Butler came on to replace Arrington who had been struggling....then in 2015, Revis was gone...and Butler was the #1 CB for 2015 and 2016....then we went out to get Gilmore.

Yeah, not a super high investment LOL....still what an unbelievable story....Popeye's to SB 49.... We did have good safety play with DMac/Chung/Harmon though....

And we tried to make DMac a #1 corner for a season too....so we have tried to invest at least...found a diamond in the rough...and spent good money on Revis/Gilmore.

Yeah, it just wasn’t like we always had a revis/Gilmore investment. Referring specifically to 2015 and 2016 seasons, when we were still competing for superbowls (for what it’s worth, I think 2015 was going to be the best team of the 2010’s if we stayed healthy). And that was long after dmac was being tried at corner. Corner has definitely been a prioritized investment. Was just pointing out there was a while that it wasn’t, but we did still have good talent, and we still competed.

The Revis deal was structured to be a one year deal, and everyone knew he was walking. We were super tight against the cap, and the resourses we had for the secondary were spent resigning DMac for what was big money back then. We were also starting down three big free upcoming free agents in Jones, Hightower and Collins.

IIRC, our big free agent signing at CB that offseason was a guy named Bradley Fletcher. I vaguely remember us roasting him pretty hard before he vanished into an ether.

If Gilmore is not ready to go week one, what do we do as far as starters at corner?

The thought of mills or slowjuan starting opposite Jackson is super scary!
