Re: Pats Roster Moves: Tony Carter Promoted

Reiss featured Chevis Jackson in his weekly "Football Journey" segment this morning. Good thing he got it posted before the transaction was finalized.

Glad to see Carter get a chance. It only seems fair he gets promoted for all the hard work he's contributed so far. And maybe Jackson will come back to PS if he clears waivers.

I'm getting dizzy with all these bottom of the roster moves this season.

This looks like a case where the Patriots are anticipating a need at cornerback on game-day and don't feel Jackson is ready to contribute after just four practices with the team.

So they turn to Carter, who has been on the practice squad all season and thus has been part of the team's system and is viewed as more ready to contribute right away.

It wouldn't be a surprise to see Jackson return at some point should he clear waivers as this looks like a move the team wouldn't have made if not for some injury questions at cornerback with Devin McCourty (rib), Kyle Arrington (elbow) and Darius Butler (thigh).

This guy looks like the REAL DEAL!

He's like that guy who played for the redskins all those years...

rookie out of Florida State, Carter joined the Broncos as a college free agent on Apr. 27. The 5-foot-9, 175 pound defensive back started all 50 career games he played for the Seminoles — totaling 139 tackles, nine interceptions and 26 passes defensed during his collegiate career.

4.35 40.

Glad Carter will get a chance to play. His time from the PS gives me more comfort with him out there than just plugging Jackson in.

Darrell Green? I sure hope you mean size-wise.

Not ready to compare a PQer to a HoF shutdown CB.

I've heard good things about Tony Carter from people who followed him in college. He could give us some decent depth at corner and contribute on special teams. Nothing wrong with that.

I don't get it. Carter spent all year on the practice squad, and yet the team gave a street FA a shot before promoting him. He's tiny, even by Patriots DB standards -- an inch shorter and 9 pounds lighter than wispy Wheatley. In college he was considered an excellent leader, but was often physically overmatched on the field.

He's obviously a hard worker judging from all his practice awards, and of course I wish him great success. Nice to see good things happen to guys like this. But what in the info you provided convinces you he's the "REAL DEAL!"?

He'll fit right in with the Patriot offensive smurfs.....

BB is looking to start a midget league team

Hate to say it but Wheatley was made of glass.......

In Hollywood barroom brawls, they make fake bottles out of some sort of sugar candy glaze. He is made out of that.

Interesting. It would be good to have them both available, if this is the case. Never enough CBs, that's for sure.

Started 50 out of 50 games in college for FSU...I think he just needs some playing time to show what he can do. He's super quick and fearless...

Not sure why they tried a street FA...although jackson was a 3rd round pick at one point, maybe they thought he had something.

Please don't get too excited about Tony Carter. My freshman year at FSU was also Tony's freshman year, so I saw him play most of those 50 games.

These numbers are very misleading. He was able to start 50 career games because our secondary during his time here was both injured (Antonio Cromartie) and terrible. He has so many interceptions and passes defensed because he was thrown at A LOT. He was also beat on big plays A LOT. I can't count the times that I saw a receiver catch a jump ball over him. Let's just say I'll always know that Tony Carter wore number 4 because of the countless times I saw the back of his jersey while he chased down a receiver from behind.

The one thing I will say about Tony Carter is that it seemed like he made his biggest plays during the biggest games. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure he had interceptions or big special teams plays in most of bowl games/upsets he played in.

Another slot corner. Well he's replacing Wilhite, a slot corner, so the move makes sense. Hopefully he will stick longer than Chevis Jackson did!
